"This Is Music" is a song by the English alternative rock band The Verve. It was released as the first single from their second album, '' A Northern Soul''. The song charted at number 35 in the United Kingdom. "This Is Music" featured as the band's opening song for the majority of their 2008 reunion tour. The Verve
The Verve were an English Rock music, rock band formed in Wigan in 1990 by lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bass guitarist Simon Jones (musician), Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury. Guitarist and keyboard player Simon Tong later became a member in their first reunion only. Beginning with a Psychedelic rock, psychedelic sound with their debut LP ''A Storm in Heaven'', by the mid-1990s the band had released several Extended play, EPs and four albums. Balfron Tower is a 26-storey residential building in Poplar, Tower Hamlets, East London. Built in a Brutalist style, it forms part of the Brownfield Estate, an area of social housing between Chrisp Street Market and the A12 northern approach to the Blackwall Tunnel. It was designed by Ernő Goldfinger in 1963 for the London County Council, built 1965–67 by the GLC, and has been a listed building since 1996 (Grade II*, originally Grade II). Michael Spencer Jones (born 1961) is a British art photographer and music video director, best known for his work with Oasis and The Verve. Education He attended Bournemouth & Poole College Art – now the Arts University Bournemouth from 1983 to 1986, where he studied photography and film, gaining a distinction. It was released on 12 June 1995 as the album's second single, charting at number 28 on the UK Singles Chart. Lyrics The song appears to be based on the work of the Smiths, using some of their techniques, such as adding major sevenths and features a lyric close to the one in " How Soon Is Now?": "''You come in on your own / and you leave on your own''" Compared to the lyric in "On Your Own": "''and you stand on your own / and you leave on your own''".
