Thika United Football Club is an association football club based in Thika, Kenya, which currently competes in the Kenyan Super League, the second tier of the Kenyan football league system. They play their home games at the Sea Joy Arena. The club was formed in 2000 as ''Beirut FC''. The following year, after being promoted to the Nationwide League (second level), it adopted new name, ''Medisca Thika'', after its then sponsors. The current name (Thika United FC) has been in use since 2003, which was also its first year in the top flight under the sponsorship of Brookside Dairies. Midfielder Matthew Dickinson hit the headlines of local and some national newspapers when he left local team Brislington Badgers in Bristol, England, to travel to Kenya to gain nationality and happened to earn himself a lengthy contract with Thika United. Thika Thika (pronounced [ˈθika]) is an industrial town and a major commerce hub in Kiambu County, Kenya, lying on the A2 road 42 kilometres (26 mi) Northeast of Nairobi, near the confluence of the Thika and Chania Rivers. Although Thika town is administratively in Kiambu County, the greater area comprises residential areas such as Bendor estate, Maporomoko, Thika Greens, Thika Golden Pearl, Bahati Ridge, and Thika Sports Club, among others that are within Murang'a County. Nicholas Ndubi Muyoti (born 8 September 1976) is a retired Kenyan. international defender cum midfielder. He is the current head coach of Kenyan Premier League side Nairobi City Stars. Muyoti is a former Kenya captain best remembered for lifting the Castle Cup trophy in 2002. Career Muyoti started out his career at lower-tier side Kenyatta Hospital F.C. while still a student at Upper Hill School. Early life Muyoti was born on 8 September 1976 in Nairobi. He went to school at Our Lady of Mercy Primary School before moving to Mumias Boys Primary School. He then proceeded to Amukura Secondary School in Busia before ending up at Nairobi's Upper Hill School.
