''They Were Five'' (French: ''Ils étaient cinq'') is a 1952 French drama film directed by Jack Pinoteau and starring Marcel André, Jean Carmet and Jean Gaven.Marie p.23 It was shot at the Boulogne Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Jacques Colombier. Synopsis Following the Second World War, five inseparable comrades return home and swear eternal friendship. However this proves to be harder than they expect in peacetime. It ends tragically for several of the characters, one of whom is killed in the War in Indochina. Jack Pinoteau
Jack Pinoteau (20 September 1923 – 6 April 2017) or Jacques Pinoteau was a French film director born at Clairefontaine-en-Yvelines. A brother of Claude Pinoteau and Arlette Merry, he is mostly known for his direction of the film ', after a novel by René Fallet which made Darry Cowl famous. Pinoteau died on 6 April 2017, aged 93. Jean-Claude Pascal
Jean-Claude Villeminot (24 October 1927 – 5 May 1992), better known as Jean-Claude Pascal (), was a French comedian, actor, singer and writer. Early life He was born in Paris into a family of wealthy textile manufacturers. His mother, Arlette Lemoine, was the great-granddaughter of English fashion designer Charles Frederick Worth. His father, Roger Villeminot, died the year of his birth. He began his secondary education in 1938 at the Collège Annel, in Compiègne, and concluded it at the Lycée Janson-de-Sailly in Paris. In 1944, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the 2nd Armored Division of General Leclerc. He was the first French soldier to enter Strasbourg in November 1944, while the German Army was still in the process of evacuating the city. For this, he received the '' Croix de Guerre'' in 1945.
