Theo De Lange
Theodorus "Theo" Adrianus de Lange (born 16 March 1960 in Kralingen, Rotterdam) is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 2018 Vintage Yachting Games in Hellerup Denmark. De Lange as middleman together with helmsman Rudy den Outer and Gabor Helmhout on the foredeck took the Gold medal in the Soling. During the 2019 North American Championship in Kingston, Ontario, De Lange again as middleman in the Dutch Soling ''Sophie’s Choice'' together with helmsman Rudy den Outer but now with Thies Bosch on the foredeck took first place. This was the first time European sailors won this championship in the over fifty years history of the North American Soling Championship! With Rudy den Outer and Ramzi Souli Theo became European Champion in the Soling at Mandello del Lario, Italy in 2021, De Lange became in 2000, together with Rudy den Outer and Leo Determan, the last Dutch Champions during the Olympic Soling era. Guy (sailing)
A guy (probably from Dutch ''gei'', "brail") is a line (rope) attached to and intended to control the end of a spar on a sailboat. On a modern sloop-rigged sailboat with a symmetric spinnaker, the spinnaker pole is the spar most commonly controlled by one or more guys. Types There are two primary types of guys used to control a spinnaker pole: *The afterguy, working guy, or simply guy and sometimes known as a brace is attached to the windward clew of the spinnaker, and runs through the jaws on the outboard end of the pole and back to the cockpit. The afterguy is used to rotate the outboard end of the pole around the mast in order to optimize the sail's effectiveness, depending on the direction of the wind. Because a spinnaker has two clews, there is always a second line identical to the afterguy attached to the leeward clew of the spinnaker. Foredeck
The forecastle ( ; contracted as fo'c'sle or fo'c's'le) is the upper deck of a sailing ship forward of the foremast, or, historically, the forward part of a ship with the sailors' living quarters. Related to the latter meaning is the phrase " before the mast" which denotes anything related to ordinary sailors, as opposed to a ship's officers. History and design In medieval shipbuilding, a ship of war was usually equipped with a tall, multi-deck castle-like structure in the bow of the ship. It served as a platform for archers to shoot down on enemy ships, or as a defensive stronghold if the ship were boarded. A similar but usually much larger structure, called the aftcastle, was at the aft end of the ship, often stretching all the way from the main mast to the stern. Capelle Aan Den IJssel
Capelle aan den IJssel (; en, Capelle on the IJssel) is a small city and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality had a population of in , and covers an area of , of which is water. It is situated on the eastern edge of Rotterdam, on the Hollandse IJssel river. International Soling Association
The International Soling Association, ISA, was founded as soon as the Soling became an International class in 1967. Originally an "Owners Club" became a very self-supporting organization who provided great support for the whole Soling community and guarded the Soling one-design during her Olympic tour of duty as well as in the present time. Object The object of the ISA is to promote the Soling Class throughout the world, to co‐ordinate competition under uniform rules, and to maintain the integrity of the one‐design nature of the class in co‐operation with World Sailing (WS) and the National Soling Associations (NSAs). Soling National Champions
All over the world, national Soling associations held since 1968 national championships. In some counties the winner of the event became the national champion even if the winning team came from a different country, like the Netherlands, Sweden or the United States. In other countries like Germany, Austria or Italy the champion is the first team from the organizing country even if they do not win the event. Since the Soling has always been an "open" class in that spirit we list in this overview the winners of the event. The first boat of the organizing country can be found in the references. Leo Determan (born 7 April 1949 in Rotterdam) is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 2008 Vintage Yachting Games in Medemblik The Netherlands. Determan in the middle together with helmsman Rudy den Outer and Ronald den Arend on the foredeck took the Gold medal in the Soling. Leo holds several Dutch titles (1995, 1999, 2000, 2008 and 2001) and one Italian title (2010) in the Soling. He used to be member of Yacht Club ''VZOD'', Rotterdam. Ramzi Souli (born 30 June 1980 in Numansdorp) is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 2012 Vintage Yachting Games in Bellano Italy. Souli on the fordeck together with helmsman Rudy den Outer and Gavin Lidlow in the middle took the Silver medal in the Soling. During the 2012 Soling Europeans in Aarhus, Denmark as well as at the 2014 Soling Europeans in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, France the same team took the 3rd place. Together with Rudy den Outer and Theo de Lange Ramzi became European Champion in the Soling at Mandello del Lario, Italy in 2021, Ramzi holds several Dutch titles in the Soling.
