John Kelly (Irish Broadcaster)
John Kelly (born 31 May 1965 in Enniskillen) is an Irish people, Irish broadcaster and writer. He presented ''The View (Irish TV series), The View'' on RTÉ One and ''The JK Ensemble'' and ''Mystery Train'' on RTÉ lyric fm. He used to present ''Other Voices (Irish TV series), Other Voices''. He also presents a one-hour show on RTÉ 2XM called ''Radio Clash''. Early days John Kelly was born in Enniskillen in 1965, the only child of Tommy and Lily Kelly. He studied law at Queen's University Belfast, completed his postgraduate professional qualifications at the Institute of Professional legal studies and then promptly joined the BBC in Belfast to present the radio music show ''The Bottom Line''. In 1991 he won the Sony Award was for best daily music show – ''The John Kelly Programme''. Also in 1991 he won the ''EMA Award'' for ''Television Personality of the Year''. RTÉ Television Centre
The RTÉ Television Centre is a television studio building which is owned by Ireland's national public service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann. It is part of the RTÉ campus located at Donnybrook in South Dublin. The building houses the main production studios for RTÉ Television, the control rooms for all RTÉ's TV channels, and RTÉ's main newsroom. History When plans for an Irish national television station were developed in the late 1950s attention quickly turned to a suitable location for the new television studios and adjoining offices. By September 1959 a 25-acre area of land on the Stillorgan road in Donnybrook became the favoured site for the new television production centre. Donnybrook, Dublin
Donnybrook () is a district of Dublin, Ireland. It is situated on the southside of the city, in the Dublin 4 postal district, and is home to the Irish public service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). It was once part of the Pembroke Township. Its neighbouring suburbs are Ballsbridge, Sandymount, Ranelagh and Clonskeagh. Donnybrook is also a civil parish mainly situated in the old barony of Dublin. History Donnybrook Fair dates from a charter of King John of England in 1204 and was held annually until 1855. It began as a fair for livestock and agricultural produce but later declined, growing into more of a carnival and funfair. Dublin 4, also rendered as D4 and D04, is a historic postal district of Dublin, Ireland including Baggot Street Upper, the southernmost fringes of the Dublin Docklands, and the suburbs of Ballsbridge, Donnybrook, Irishtown, Merrion, Ringsend (including South Lotts and parts of Grand Canal Dock) and Sandymount, on the Southside of Dublin. RTÉ One
RTÉ One ( ga, RTÉ a hAon) is an Irish free-to-air flagship television channel owned and operated by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). It is the most-popular and most-watched television channel in the country and was launched as ''Telefís Éireann'' on 31 December 1961, it was renamed ''RTÉ'' in 1966, and it was renamed as RTÉ 1 upon the launch of RTÉ 2 in 1978. It is funded partly by the government's licence fee; the remainder of the funding is provided by commercial advertising. Because RTÉ is funded partly by the licence fee it shows considerably fewer advertisements than most other channels available in Ireland and Northern Ireland. ''The View'' is an Irish television programme broadcast on RTÉ One between 1999 and 2011. Presented by John Kelly, it centred on arts-related topics. It was initially known as ''Later On 2'' and was presented by various presenters until John Kelly joined RTÉ from Today FM, ''Later On 2'' was broadcast on first Network 2 in 1997, it later rebranded as ''The View'', it remained in the same broadcast slot but on RTÉ One until 13 December 2011. ''The View'' featured reviews of books, exhibitions, films, music, theatre and art. There was a varied panel of contributors who offer their opinions including artists, writers, journalists, film-makers and critics. The programme was broadcast each Tuesday night. Sinéad Gleeson
Sinéad Gleeson is an Irish writer, editor and freelance broadcaster. She has won the Irish Book Award. Career Having edited the work of others, in 2016's ''The Long Gaze Back'' and 2017's ''The Glass Shore'', she released her first book ''Constellations'', a collection of personal essays, in 2019. Some of the essays in this work document Gleeson's struggle through illness, she is a survivor of Acute promyelocytic leukemia and has had a hip replacement.
