The Winds Of Green Monday
"The Winds of Green Monday" is a 1965 Australian television play by Michael Noonan. It aired as part of ''Wednesday Theatre'' on August 4, 1965 in Sydney and Melbourne, and on 1 September 1965 in Brisbane. It starred Terry Norris and was directed by Oscar Whitbread. Plot A crew deserts a ship to find their fortune in the 1850s goldfields. After three weeks of digging and nothing to show for it, the crew get restless despite the efforts of Welshman Jones. The ship's captain turns up at their shanty and tries to exercise his authority. Only the tragic accident which causes a young apprentice to lose his mind prevents the crew from returning to the ship. The captain forms a relationship with a singer. Oscar Whitbread
Oscar Ralph Whitbread (26 November 1929 – 16 May 2016) was an English-Australian producer who worked extensively in television. He moved to Australia in the late 1940s. Whitbread started his career at the ABC in 1956, where he served as the Head of Drama, before switching to the same position with the Seven Network. He was responsible for numerous successful series including '' Bellbird'', ''The Flying Doctors'' and the miniseries ''Power Without Glory''. Whitbread was the senior executive producer at Crawford Productions and also worked in England for the BBC, Thames Television, Granada Television and London Weekend Television. During the 1970s, he worked as a lecturer in theatre media studies, at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, New South Wales. Personal life Whitbread was married to Corinne Kerby. Michael Noonan (Australian Writer)
Michael John Noonan (19 September 1921, in Sumner, near Christchurch, New Zealand – 4 March 2000, in Brisbane) was an Australian / New Zealand novelist and radio script writer. He also created the Australian TV series ''Riptide''. Noonan served with the Second Australian Imperial Force in New Guinea during World War II. He moved to England in 1957 but returned frequently to Australia and returned there to live in Brisbane in 1979. Noonan was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 1998 Australia Day Honours for "service to the arts as an author of numerous novels, works of non-fiction, television scripts and plays". The beach, his favourite place, inspired most of his books. He spent the last years of his life living in Queensland, Australia. IN 1993 he married Jan Pearce (d. 2010). "The Sweet Sad Story of Elmo and Me" is a 1965 Australian television film which aired on ABC as part of '' Wednesday Theatre''. It aired on 28 July 1965 in Melbourne and Sydney. A satire about suburbia, it was written by Canberra-based writer Ric Throssell and aired in a 60-minute time-slot. It was produced in ABC's Sydney studios by Henri Safran. According to one paper, "Throughout the play the author pokes his tongue at suburbia, materialism, education and television, among other things." Terence Richard Norris (born 9 June 1930) is an Australian stage, television and film actor, and politician. As an actor, he has starred in TV shows such as '' Bellbird'' and ''Cop Shop'', and in films like ''Romulus, My Father'', '' The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'' and '' Paper Planes''. George Whaley (19 June 1934 – 6 August 2019) was an Australian actor, director and writer, known for his work across theatre and film. He was born in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia. He wrote and directed the mini-series ''The Harp in the South'' and it; sequel ''Poor Man's Orange'', as well as '' Dad and Dave: On Our Selection.''
