The Web Planet
''The Web Planet'' is the fifth serial of the second season in the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. Written by Bill Strutton and directed by Richard Martin, the serial was broadcast on BBC1 in six weekly parts from 13 February to 20 March 1965. In the serial, the First Doctor (William Hartnell) and his travelling companions Ian Chesterton ( William Russell), Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill), and Vicki (Maureen O'Brien) ally themselves with the Menoptra, the former inhabitants of the planet Vortis, as they struggle to win back the planet from the malignant Animus (Catherine Fleming) and its Zarbi slaves. When crafting an idea for the serial, Strutton recalled a memory as a child of watching two bull ants fighting, which he linked with his two sons fighting each other. Barbara Wright (Doctor Who)
Barbara Wright is a fictional character in the British science fiction television series '' Doctor Who'' and a companion of the First Doctor. She was one of the programme's first regulars and appeared in the bulk of its first two seasons from 1963–65, played by Jacqueline Hill. Barbara appeared in 16 stories (74 episodes). In the film version of one of the serials, ''Dr. Who and the Daleks'' (1965), Barbara was played by actress Jennie Linden, but with a very different personality and backstory, which includes her being a granddaughter of "Dr Who". Verity Lambert
Verity Ann Lambert (27 November 1935 – 22 November 2007) was an English television and film producer. Lambert began working in television in the 1950s. She began her career as a producer at the BBC by becoming the founding producer of the science-fiction series ''Doctor Who'' from 1963 until 1965. She left the BBC in 1969 and worked for other television companies, notably having a long association with Thames Television and its Euston Films offshoot in the 1970s and 1980s. Her many credits as producer include ''Adam Adamant Lives!'', '' The Naked Civil Servant'', ''Rock Follies'', ''Minder'', ''Widows'', '' G.B.H.'', ''Jonathan Creek'', ''Love Soup'' and ''Eldorado''. ''Myrmecia'' is a genus of ants first established by Danish zoologist Johan Christian Fabricius in 1804. The genus is a member of the subfamily Myrmeciinae of the family Formicidae. Vortis is a fictional planet in the (equally fictional) Isop galaxy, created by Bill Strutton and originally featuring in six 1965 BBC episodes of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', collectively titled ''The Web Planet'', and featuring William Hartnell as the First Doctor. It also appeared in an original ''Doctor Who'' novel, '' Twilight of the Gods'', one of the Virgin Missing Adventures range. and an audio drama, '' Return to the Web Planet'', produced by Big Finish Productions. The second season of British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' was originally broadcast on BBC1 between 1964 and 1965.
