The Virginia Monologues
''The Virginia Monologues'' is the second compilation album by American dark cabaret band The Dresden Dolls, released in April 2015 on Record Store Day. It is a three-LP vinyl compilation of the albums '' Yes, Virginia...'' (2006) and '' No, Virginia...'' (2008). This release marks the first time ''Yes, Virginia...'' was put out on vinyl. Three different color LPs are housed in a tri-pocket, book-like gate-fold jacket. The release run was limited to 9000 copies. The Dresden Dolls
The Dresden Dolls are an American musical duo from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 2000, the group consists of Amanda Palmer (lead vocals and piano; additional: keyboards, harmonica, ukulele) and Brian Viglione (drums and backing vocals; additional: guitar, bass guitar). The two describe their style as "Brechtian punk cabaret", a phrase invented by Palmer because she was "terrified" that the press would invent a name that "would involve the word ''gothic''". The Dresden Dolls are part of an underground dark cabaret movement that started gaining momentum in the early 2000s. "Shores of California" is the third single by The Dresden Dolls duo, taken from the second studio album '' Yes, Virginia...''. The Boston Herald noted ''The brand new "Shores of California" displayed Palmer's knack for writing bona fide pop tunes with its infectious sing-along chorus and familiar melody.'' Brian Viglione
Brian Viglione (born May 16, 1979, in Greenville, New Hampshire) is an American drummer best known for his work with The Dresden Dolls and Violent Femmes. He was also a prominent member of New York City's cabaret punk orchestra The World/Inferno Friendship Society. Known for his energetic and expressive drumming style, Viglione has often aligned himself with groups who incorporate eclectic musical styles and theatrical elements. A multi-instrumentalist, Viglione also plays guitar, bass, percussion, and sings in several of his collaborations, as well as having done producing work. Viglione relocated from New York to Los Angeles in 2019. Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which pushes a length of magnetic tape against a capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played to access different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters. Piano
