Winger (band)
Winger is an American heavy metal band that has combined elements of glam metal and progressive metal. Formed in New York City, Winger gained popularity during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band's two platinum albums, '' Winger'', and ''In the Heart of the Young'', along with charting singles "Seventeen", "Headed for a Heartbreak" and " Miles Away", put them on the top of the charts by the early 1990s. In 1990, the band was nominated for an American Music Award for "Best New Heavy Metal Band". As the music scene changed in the early to mid-1990s due to the popularity of grunge, their success faded following their third release, ''Pull''. Winger disbanded in 1994. In 2001 they reunited and have since conducted several successful tours. In 2006, the band's 1993 touring line-up (minus Paul Taylor but including John Roth) reunited to record the band's first studio album in over 13 years, '' IV'', and toured in support of the album into 2008. In 2009, the band released the ...

Pull (Winger Album)
''Pull'' is the third studio album by American rock band Winger. The album was released in 1993 by Atlantic Records. It was produced by Mike Shipley on a considerable budget and marked a significant change in Winger's sound, eschewing their glam metal anthems prevalent in their first two albums for a harder and more aggressive style of music with a good dose of socio-political leanings on tracks like "Blind Revolution Mad", "In for the Kill" and "Who's the One". The material was also less commercial and radio-friendly, evident especially in the track "Junkyard Dog (Tears on Stone)" incorporating contemporary heavy metal and progressive elements and clocking in at 6:54. The album is often regarded as the favourite among the group's fans, but in terms of sales figures the album was not as successful as the two first albums, peaking at #83 on Billboard's Album chart. However, the lead single "''Down Incognito''" reached #15 on the Mainstream rock Billboard chart. ''Pull'' was rec ...

Billboard Hot 100
The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data. Radio airplay, which, unlike sales figures and streaming, is readily available on a real-time basis, is also tracked on a Friday to Thursday cycle effective with the chart dated July 17, 2021 (previously Monday to Sunday and before July 2015, Wednesday to Tuesday). A new chart is compiled and officially released to the public by ''Billboard'' on Tuesdays but post-dated to the following Saturday. The first number-one song of the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 was " Poor Little Fool" by Ricky Ne ...

Rhino Entertainment
Rhino Entertainment Company is an American specialty record label and production company founded in 1978. It is currently the catalog division for Warner Music Group. Its current CEO is Mark Pinkus. History Founded in 1978, Rhino was originally a novelty and reissue label during the 1970s and 1980s. It released compilation albums of pop, rock & roll, and rhythm & blues successes from the 1950s through the 1980s, as well as novelty-song LPs (compiled in-house or by Dr. Demento) and retrospectives of famous comedy performers, including Richard Pryor, Stan Freberg, Tom Lehrer, and Spike Jones. Rhino started as a record shop on Westwood Boulevard, Los Angeles, in 1973, run by Richard Foos, and became a record distributor five years later thanks to the effort of then-store manager Harold Bronson. Their early releases were mostly novelty records (such as their first single, in 1975, Wild Man Fischer's "Go To Rhino Records"). The difficulties involved in getting airplay and distr ...

The Very Best Of Winger
''The Very Best of Winger '' is a compilation album of material from the American rock band Winger, released by the label Atlantic Records and the company Rhino Entertainment in October 2001. Most of the songs on the album were collected from the first three Winger studio albums: '' Winger'' (1988), ''In the Heart of the Young'' (1990) and ''Pull'' (1993). However, one new recording called "On the Inside" was featured, and a Japanese bonus track from the ''Pull'' album called "Hell to Pay" also was included. According to Kip Winger, "On the Inside" was a leftover riff from the ''Pull'' sessions that he and Reb Beach worked into a complete song for the release of this compilation. Paradoxically, the album has a track listing essentially in reverse chronological order, with the more recently finished the song the earlier it appears. Reviews Music critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine lauded the release for the publication Allmusic, stating that it proved that the group has had "some ...

Seven (Winger Album)
''Seven'' is the seventh studio album by American rock band Winger. It marks the return of guitarist/keyboardist Paul Taylor to the band since 1990's ''In the Heart of the Young''. The album was preceded by the lead single "Proud Desperado". The band toured in the UK in May and the US in June 2023 in support of the album. Critical reception Writing for '' Classic Rock'', Johnny Sharp opined that Winger "are of course well aware of what their audience wants from them and have no need to reinvent themselves" and asked "who cares when the choruses are this big?" Kris Peters of ''Heavy Mag'' wrote "musically the whole album is brilliant, with enough variations within the rock genre to keep it fresh and exuberant" and that ''Seven'' is "classic stadium rock with big hooks and accessible music, but damn isn't it good to hear again?" Rob Smith of '' Ultimate Classic Rock'' stated, "That the group has made an album as rock-solid as Seven is a testament to their collective power and vir ...

Karma (Winger Album)
''Karma'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Winger. It was released on October 16, 2009, in Europe and October 27, 2009, in the United States. Background The inspiration for a new Winger came about at the end of 2008, when frontman Kip Winger had the vision to meld the more commercial, heavier and song-oriented approach of the first two albums with the more "thinking-man" approach of the last two studio records. Kip Winger said of the title that "We were discussing the very interesting path the band has had and we have all been through so much together. So we went for ''Karma'' as this is a word that truly sums up the experience of being in the band." When questioned about the album, Kip Winger stated: "When the chance came up to do a new Winger record, I envisioned an upbeat totally rocking record that was a cross between the first Winger album and ''Pull''. So Reb and I sat down and wrote all the music in a month or so. I worked for six months to finish it ...
