The Upside (Film)
''The Upside'' is a 2017 American comedy-drama film directed by Neil Burger, written by Jon Hartmere. It is a remake of the French 2011 film ''The Intouchables'', which was itself inspired by the lives of Abdel Sallou and Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. The film follows a paralyzed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a recently paroled convict (Kevin Hart) whom he hires to take care of him. Nicole Kidman, Golshifteh Farahani, and Julianna Margulies also star. It is the third remake of ''The Intouchables'' after the Indian film ''Oopiri'', and the Argentinian film '' Inseparables'' (2016). An English-language remake was first announced in July 2011. Neil Norman Burger (born November 22, 1963) is an American filmmaker. He is known for the fake-documentary ''Interview with the Assassin'' (2002), the period drama '' The Illusionist'' (2006), '' Limitless'' (2011), and the sci-fi action film '' Divergent'' (2014). Life and career Neil Norman Burger was born in 1963 in Greenwich, Connecticut, United States of America. After graduating from Yale University with a degree in fine arts, Burger became involved with experimental film in the 1980s and went on to direct music videos for such alternative artists as the Meat Puppets. 2017 Toronto International Film Festival
The 42nd annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 7 to 17 September 2017. There were fourteen programmes, with the Vanguard and City to City programmes both being retired from previous years, with the total number of films down by 20% from the 2016 edition. '' Borg/McEnroe'' directed by Janus Metz Pedersen opened the festival. According to a "fact sheet" released by the Festival before it began, this edition included 255 feature-length films and 84 short films. Of the feature films, 147 are claimed to be world premieres. The number of Canadian films at the Festival (including co-productions) is listed as 28 features and 29 shorts. Christopher Nolan's '' Dunkirk'' received a special IMAX 70mm screening at the Cinesphere as part of the main film slate and the 50th anniversary of IMAX, making it the first Nolan film to appear at the festival since ''Following'', nineteen years earlier. Philippe Pozzo di Borgo (born 14 February 1951) is a Corsican French businessman who is the Director of Pommery and was the owner of an inherited historic ''hôtel particulier'' in Paris used as a function hall. Biography Philippe is the second son of the French duke Pozzo di Borgo and the Marquis de Vogue. The noble family dates back to the 1500s. After completing his education, he began working in the champagne industry. Prior to his job as director of Pommery, Philippe was a manager at Moët and Chandon.
