The Tin Flute (film)
''The Tin Flute'' (french: Bonheur d'occasion) is a 1983 Canadian drama film directed by Claude Fournier and based on the Gabrielle Roy novel of the same name. The film was co-produced by the National Film Board of Canada's French-language branch, Ciné St-Henri Inc., and Société Radio-Canada, the French-language branch of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It was entered into the 13th Moscow International Film Festival. Claude Fournier (filmmaker)
Claude Fournier (born July 23, 1931 in Waterloo, Quebec) is a Canadian film director, screenwriter, editor and cinematographer. He is one of the forerunners of the Cinema of Quebec. He is the twin brother of Guy Fournier. Career Claude Fournier began his career in journalism then moved to the Radio-Canada as a news cameraman. He joined the National Film Board of Canada in 1957 as a writer and director, and he worked on early cinéma-vérité films such as '' À Saint-Henri le cinq septembre'' and '' La lutte''. He left the Board to work in the United States with famed documentary filmmakers Richard Leacock and D.A. Pennebaker, then returned to Montreal in 1963 to set up his own production company, Rose Films. In 1970, he directed ''Two Women in Gold (Deux femmes en or)'', one of the most successful Quebec films of its time. This is a list of submissions to the 56th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. Howard Ryshpan (born December 5, 1932 in New York City) (son of Reuben Ryshpan (1887-1977) and Cecilia Nathanson) is a Canadians, Canadian anglophone screen and voice character actor, in radio, film, television and theater. He also taught theater. He has directed numerous plays, notably at festivals. As an artist, Howard Ryshpan is one of the pioneers of Black & White English television in Montreal which started in September 1952. His father Reuben was born in Poland from Hungarian origin parents, having arrived in Connecticut at the age of 9. His mother Cecilia who was born in Ottawa was a musician and music teacher successively in Ottawa, Toronto and New York. Howard's parents moved from New York City to Montreal in 1934.
