The Test Of Donald Norton (1926 Film)
''The Test of Donald Norton'' is a 1926 American silent Western film starring George Walsh and Tyrone Power and directed by B. Reeves Eason. Synopsis Donald Norton, a man of mixed race, grew up under the care of the Layards. He becomes the manager of a fur trading post for Hudson's Bay Company but has some struggles when he goes to be reassigned. Donald becomes ill one winter and his post manager, Dale Millington, takes advantage of his absence to impugn Donald's loyalty to the company. Donald is fired by his district manager, John Corrigal. In an argument with Corrigal, Donald becomes convinced that Corrigal is his father. After taking a post in a rival company, Donald hears his mother has almost choked to death. Both he and Corrigal rush to her side, but she dies before she can clear up the paternity mystery. Adele Buffington (born Adele Burgdorfer, and sometimes billed as Jess Bowers) was an American screenwriter of the silent and sound film eras of Hollywood. Early life Adele was born in St. Louis to Adolph Burgdorfer and Mary Elizabeth Frederick, both of whom were immigrants from Germany. Before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 16, she worked in a movie theater, where she got to watch countless films. Once she arrived in Los Angeles, she got a job selling tickets at a theater in Hollywood; she worked as a treasurer for several theaters during this time period. Career Before she was out of her teens, she sold her first screenplay, 1919's '' L’Apache'', which was produced by Thomas Ince for the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation. After being added to the studio's scenario department, she continued to pen silent screenplays throughout the 1920s. Virginia True Boardman (born Margaret Shields, May 23, 1889 – June 10, 1971) was an American actress of the silent era. Biography Born in Fort Davis, Texas, Boardman began her theatrical career in 1906 as Virginia Eames (using her mother's surname) and acted with the Streeter-Bryan company in 1908. She went on to appear in 52 films between 1911 and 1936. Although her career started off strong, like many actresses of the silent film era she failed to make a successful transition to talking films, and by the mid-1930s her career was at its end for all practical purposes. On January 16, 1909, she married actor True Boardman, and they remained wed until his death in 1918. The couple performed together in stock theater companies and in vaudeville. Evelyn Selbie (July 6, 1871 – December 7, 1950) was an American stage actress and performer in both silent and sound films. Biography Born in Louisville, Kentucky, as a young woman Selbie was a sidesaddle rider. She had a career which lasted twenty-five years on the stage. She began in Proctor's stock companies in New York after leaving her home. She acted in plays like ''Human Hearts'' and '' The Cat and the Canary''. In the former production she starred for two seasons. Selbie also acted in the stock theater company that operated at the Grand Theater in Reno, Nevada. Then she ventured west where she tenured 18 months at the old Central Theatre in San Francisco, California.
