The Sun Exploding
''The Sun Exploding'' is the first full-length release from Brooklyn-based rock band Tidal Arms. The album was released February 15, 2011. Recording After finishing recording their debut single, Hair and Teeth / Flooded Meadows, the band immediately moved toward writing their first LP, The Sun Exploding. The band recording the album themselves at their studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, called Spaceman Sound. Says vocalist/guitarist Tom Tierney, "Our goal was to make a record that sounds big, but mostly sounds like the three of us playing our music in our space." When it came time for mixing, the band turned to Andrew Schneider (Pelican, Cave-In, Made out of Babies), who had recorded and mixed the band's aforementioned 7". Tidal Arms
Tidal Arms is an experimental/psychedelic/rock band from Brooklyn, New York that formed in 2009. They self-released their first album, ''The Sun Exploding'', on February 13, 2011, and followed up with a national tour supporting Glassjaw. The band's self-titled second album was released on November 26, 2013 via Black Numbers. Formation Following the break-up of his bands From Autumn To Ashes and Biology, vocalist/drummer Francis Mark went on to form Warship. In 2009, after the departure of Warship's co-founding members, Mark met guitarist Tom Tierney on Craig's List and hired him to perform with the band on a national tour supporting Goblin Cock. Mark and Tierney continued playing together after the tour, splitting time writing between Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Pelican is an American post-metal quartet from Chicago, Illinois. Established in 2001, the band is known for their atmospheric and almost entirely instrumental style. They have released six studio albums and six EPs. History and style The band is known for dense combinations of different melodies and extended track lengths. A cave-in is a collapse of a geologic formation, mine or structure which may occur during mining, tunneling, or steep-walled excavation such as trenching.
