The Split Party
The Split Party ( hr, Splitska stranka or STS) was a Croatian centrist political party, formed in February 2017. Ivo Baldasar
Ivo Baldasar (born 5 August 1958) is a Croatian politician who served as Mayor of Split from 2013 until his resignation in March 2017. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) until he was thrown out of the party in 2016. After that, he joined forces with the Bandić Milan 365 party. In 2017 he formed his own party called The Split Party. Political career Baldasar spent his early career working as a lawyer within the tourism industry, concentrating mainly on maritime business. He joined the SDP in 1998, and in 2009 became a city councilor for the city of Split. In 2012 he became the party's candidate for mayor of the city, winning the second round of elections over Vjekoslav Ivanišević to become the 71st mayor of Split. Populism
Populism refers to a range of political stances that emphasize the idea of "the people" and often juxtapose this group against " the elite". Sabor
The Croatian Parliament ( hr, Hrvatski sabor) or the Sabor is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of Croatia. Under the terms of the Croatian Constitution, the Sabor represents the people and is vested with legislative power. The Sabor is composed of 151 members elected to a four-year term on the basis of direct, universal and equal suffrage by secret ballot. Seats are allocated according to the Croatian Parliament electoral districts: 140 members of the parliament are elected in multi-seat constituencies. 2017 Split Local Elections
The 2017 Split local elections were held on 21 May and 4 June 2017 for the Mayor of Split and members of the Split city council. Ivo Baldasar, the 71st mayor who served from 2013 to 2017 ran for re-election to a second four-year term, ultimately finishing in 9th place with 0.80% of the vote in the first round. As no candidate won an absolute majority of the vote in the first round, a second round of elections was held on 4 June 2017 between the two highest-ranked candidates in terms of popular vote: Željko Kerum of the Croatian Civic Party, who was previously the 70th Mayor of Split from 2009 to 2013, and Andro Krstulović Opara of the Croatian Democratic Union. Krstulović Opara narrowly won the run-off taking 46.2% of the votes against 44.3% for Kerum. Turnout was 45.5% in the first round and 38.1% in the second round.
