The Southern Stars
The Sahara Elite League (also known as Zonal League) was a four team cricket competition created by Cricket Kenya featuring a Twenty20 tournament, a one day cricket tournament and finally a three-day cricket tournament. For the inaugural league four teams will be competing consisting of the 60 best players according to Cricket Kenya from Kenya. Tournament history The first, and what was to be the only, edition of the competition involved four franchises, the Northern Nomads, the Eastern Aces, the Southern Stars, and the Western Chiefs. The teams were captained by National team players, Steve Tikolo, Thomas Odoyo, Kennedy Obuya, and Peter Ongondo 2008. The inaugural T20 Competition, played in February 2008, was won by the Eastern Aces, while the first 50 over competition was won by the Northern Nomads, However the 3 day format of the competition was postponed due to unfavourable weather and is set to be played in June 2008. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Kalpesh Ashok Patel (born 18 July 1985) is a former Kenyan cricketer who played two One Day Internationals for the national side, although he had no success in either. Patel's ODIs are the only List A games he played, but he appeared four times at first-class level. Hiren Ashok Varaiya (born 9 April 1984 in Nairobi) is a Kenyan cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a left arm leg spinner. Kennedy Shahid Bwibo (born 15 May 1968) is a former Kenyan cricketer whose single list-A appearance for the Kenyan national side came in March 1997. Born in Nairobi, Bwibo's club cricket was played for the Sir Ali Muslim Club. Described by a CricInfo writer as a "burly right arm opening bowler", his best performance at that level was 8/28. Lameck Onyango Ngoche (born 22 September 1973) is a former Kenyan cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. Though initially not one of cricket's more successful figures, his career began a turnaround during his second year, 1997, in which he switched roles from bowler to a specialist tail-ender for the ICC Trophy.
