The Source (comics)
The Source is a metaphysical concept created by writer-artist Jack Kirby for his Fourth World series of comic books. It first appeared in '' New Gods'' #1 (February 1971). History The Source may be considered the consciousness of the DC Universe, in which it is the non-religious equivalent to Buddha-nature or Purusha or the Presence. It is the source of all that exists. Mostly associated with the New Gods, the Source was the supposed origin of the Godwave that is believed to have been responsible for creating and empowering the "Gods" of the DC Universe with their divine abilities. It also seems to be partially responsible for the ability of DC residents to develop superpowers, especially those which defy physics. Lying at the edge of the known universe in the Promethean Galaxy is the Source Wall, which protects the Source, and traps all those who attempt to pass beyond it. Metaphysics
Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that studies the fundamental nature of reality, the first principles of being, identity and change, space and time, causality, necessity, and possibility. Boom Tube
The New Gods are a fictional extraterrestrial race appearing in the eponymous comic book series published by DC Comics, as well as selected other DC titles. Created and designed by Jack Kirby, they first appeared in February 1971 in ''New Gods'' #1. Publication history Volume 1 (1971) The New Gods are natives of the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is an idyllic planet filled with unspoiled forests, mountains, and rivers that is ruled by the benevolent Highfather, while Apokolips is a nightmarish, polluted, and ruined dystopia filled with machinery and fire pits that is ruled by the tyrannical Darkseid. The two planets were once part of the same world, a planet called ''Urgrund'' (German for "primeval ground"), but it was split apart millennia ago after the death of the Old Gods during Ragnarök. DC Rebirth
DC Rebirth is a 2016 relaunch by the American comic book publisher DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero comic book titles. Using the end of The New 52 initiative in May 2016 as its launching point, DC Rebirth restored the DC Universe to a form much like that prior to the 2011 " Flashpoint" storyline while still incorporating numerous elements of The New 52, including its continuity. It also saw many of its titles move to a twice-monthly release schedule, along with being released at . DC Comics ended the Rebirth branding in December 2017, opting to include everything under a larger "DC Universe" banner and naming. The continuity and repercussions established by Rebirth continues into the New Justice (2018–2021), Infinite Frontier (2021–2023), and Dawn of DC (2023) relaunchs. Death Of The New Gods
''Death of the New Gods'' was an eight-issue comic book Limited series (comics), limited series published in 2007 in comics, 2007 and 2008 in comics, 2008 by DC Comics. It was written and pencilled by Jim Starlin. The series follows the final days of the New Gods as they are stalked by a mysterious killer. The events of the series set the foundation for the 2008 storyline ''Final Crisis''. Background ''Death of the New Gods'' was conceived by DC as a series that would lead- and tie-in to ''Final Crisis'', much like ''Countdown to Final Crisis''. Jim Starlin stated in an interview that: "I sort of think of this project as putting an ending to Jack's New Gods saga. New Genesis
New Genesis is a fictional planet appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. A part of Jack Kirby's Fourth World mythos, the planet is home to the heroic New Gods led by the sage Highfather. New Genesis is the positive counterpart of Apokolips, home of the evil New Gods led by the tyrant Darkseid. New Genesis is an unspoiled and sunlit world of forests, mountains, and bodies of water. The New Gods inhabit Supertown, a golden city floating above the planet's surface. Both New Genesis and Apokolips exist in a different plane of existence from the regular DC Universe, located near the Source that originated the Old and New Gods. Accessing either Apokolips or New Genesis usually requires a form of travel known as "Boom Tube", a portal generated by a device known as Mother Box. Orion (comics)
Orion is a fictional superhero that appears in comic books published by DC Comics. Publication history Orion first appeared in ''New Gods'' #1 (February 1971), and was created by writer/artist Jack Kirby. Jack Kirby era Orion originally appeared in ''New Gods'' #1 (February–March 1971) which was part of Jack Kirby's Fourth World titles published in the early 1970s. Other titles included in this metaseries were '' Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen'', ''Mister Miracle'' and ''The Forever People''. When the titles were canceled, Orion and his fellow New Gods characters were unseen until DC returned to the Fourth World concept a few years later. Return of the New Gods Following an appearance in the final issue of ''1st Issue Special'', DC revived both the ''New Gods'' and ''Mister Miracle'' series, continuing the numbering from the original series.
