The Somali Dervish
''The Somali Dervish'' was an epic film directed by Said Salah and Amar Sneh between 1983 and 1985. It is one of the few full-length feature films to have been produced in Somalia. With a budget of $1.8 million, the 4-hour-and-40-minute epic followed the life of Muhammad Abdullah Hassan, emir of Darawiish sultan Diiriye Guure of the revolutionary Darawiish anti-colonialists. Seven languages were used for film dialogue: Somali, Arabic, Italian, English, and three regional dialects. Said Salah
Said Salah Ahmed ( so, Saciid Saalax Axmed, ar, سعيد صالح أحمد) is a Somali playwright, poet, educator and filmmaker. Life Said Salah was previously a biology teacher in Somalia. In 1984-1985, Ahmed directed his first feature film, '' The Somali Darwish'' (alt. ''The Somalia Dervishes''), with Amar Sneh serving as producer. With a budget of $1.8 million, the 4-hour-and-40-minute epic was devoted to the polity of Darawiish king Diiriye Guure, i.e. the Dervish Movement. In the film dialogue you can hear seven languages: Somali, Arabic, Italian, English, and three regional dialects. Las Anod
Las Anod ( so, Laascaanood; ar, لاسعانود) is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somaliland. Territorial dispute The city is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The former bases its claim due to the kinship ties between the Dhulbahante clan and the dominant clan in Puntland, the Majeerteen, whilst the latter's claim is grounded on the border of the former British Somaliland Protectorate. The city was the proclaimed capital of Khatumo State throughout its existence until its dissolvement in 2017.
