The Skints
The Skints are an English reggae punk band from London, described by Clash Music as "the torchbearers for modern British reggae music." The Skints mix reggae, ska, dub, punk rock, dancehall, soul, and rap, touring extensively across the UK, Europe and the United States. Their album ''Swimming Lessons'' (2019) debuted at number 1 on the Billboard reggae chart. Their original style of music has been described as "tropical punk". History Early years The Skints formed as school friends at Woodbridge High School (London). The band hail from the Leyton/ Walthamstow and South Woodford/ Woodford areas of northeast London. They settled on the current line-up in May 2007. The King Blues
The King Blues are a British punk rock band from London credited for fusing punk and hip hop together with influences from ska and spoken word. Tariq Ali described the band's sounds as "rough, radical music that should unsettle the rulers of this country. A new generation of musicians are challenging war-monger politicians and their courtiers". Influences include Public Enemy, The Clash and The Specials. Camden Underworld
Camden Underworld is a music venue in Camden Town, London, England. The venue is a part of the World's End pub, situated in the basement of the building. It has a capacity of 500 people. History Over the years The Underworld has become the heart of the alternative music scene in England. Little is promoted about the history of the venue, although it dates back to the opening of the pub above it. The venue is owned by Glendola Leisure. Mad Professor (born Neil Joseph Stephen Fraser, 1955, Georgetown, Guyana) is a Guyanese-born British dub music producer and engineer known for his original productions and remix work. He is considered one of the leading producers of dub music's second generation and was instrumental in transitioning dub into the digital age. Reading And Leeds Festivals
The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds in England. The events take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival is held at Little John's Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near Caversham Bridge. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of a historic house. Headliners and most supporting acts typically play at both sites, with Reading's Friday line up becoming Leeds' Saturday line-up, Reading's Saturday line-up playing at Leeds on Sunday, and Leeds' Friday line-up attending Reading on Sunday. Chris Murray (born September 26, 1966) is a Canadian-singer-songwriter and guitarist working primarily in the genre of ska. In Canada, he was a member of the now-defunct ska band King Apparatus during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He now lives in the Los Angeles, California area, where he performs regularly, both solo as well as with the Chris Murray Combo. From 2003 until the venue's closure in 2009, Murray organized a weekly ska/reggae show called "The Bluebeat Lounge" which featured both local and out of town artists every Wednesday at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. Murray recorded '' Slackness'', a collaboration with the seminal New York City ska band The Slackers. Mike Davies (born August 8, 1978) is an American firefighter and former disc jockey on BBC Radio 1 in the United Kingdom. Early life Davies was born in Culver City, California on August 8, 1978 to British parents, where he lived until he left high school, aged 19. Peter Miles is a British record producer based in Devon, England. Career Although Peter Miles has worked in a variety of genres (indie, folk, pop and hip-hop) he is most recognised as a rock producer.
