''Firefly'' is an American space Western drama television series, created by writer and director Joss Whedon, under his Mutant Enemy Productions label. Whedon served as an executive producer, along with Tim Minear. The series is set in the year 2517, after the arrival of humans in a new star system, and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of ''Serenity (fictional spacecraft), Serenity'', a "''Firefly''-class" spacecraft, spaceship. The ensemble cast portrays the nine characters who live on ''Serenity''. Whedon pitched the show as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things." The show explores the lives of a group of people, some of whom fought on the losing side of a civil war, who make a living on the fringes of society as part of the Settler, pioneer culture of their star system. David Boyd (cinematographer)
David Russell Boyd, A.S.C. is an American cinematographer and director of television and film known for his role as director of photography for the Fox television series ''Firefly'' and the AMC series ''The Walking Dead''. He also worked as cinematographer on the first three episodes of HBO's '' Deadwood''. On the NBC television series ''Friday Night Lights'' he served as director of photography on 18 of 22 episodes in the first season and moved up to direct two more. Mutant Enemy Productions is a production company that was created in 1996 by Joss Whedon to produce ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer.''
