''The Side Effects'' (stylised in all caps) is the sixth studio album by Japanese rock band Coldrain. Recorded at Studio Barbarosa in Orlando, Florida with producer Michael 'Elvis' Baskette (who previously produced the band's 2017 predecessor '' Fateless''), it was released on August 28, 2019 by Warner Music Japan. ''The Side Effects'' is the second Coldrain album to be released by Warner Music Japan, the first being '' Fateless''. This would be the follow-up to 2017's ''Fateless'' and the last album by the band to be released in the 2010s. It would be their lowest charted album on the Oricon Albums Chart since the release of '' The Enemy Inside'', which debuted and peaked at number 21, for which ''The Side Effects'' would just barely scrape into the top ten at number 10. Coldrain
are a Japanese Rock music, rock band from Nagoya, Japan, who were formed in 2007. The band combines melodic singing with screams typical of the post-hardcore genre. Although the band is Japanese, all of their songs are written in English. The lineup consists of lead vocalist Masato Hayakawa, guitarists Ryo Yokochi (Y.K.C.) and Kazuya Sugiyama (Sugi), bassist Ryo Shimizu (RxYxO) and drummer Katsuma Minatani. Hayakawa has a Japanese father and an American mother and speaks both Japanese and English fluently. The band's first two albums, ''Final Destination (album), Final Destination'' and ''The Enemy Inside (Coldrain album), The Enemy Inside'', were both released exclusively in their home country of Japan. Mayday (Coldrain Song)
"Mayday" (stylised in all caps) is a song by Japanese rock band Coldrain. It is the fifth single from their sixth studio album '' The Side Effects'', produced by Michael Baskette, written by Masato Hayakawa and Ryo Yokochi, and was released on 2 November 2019. "Mayday" features Ryo Kinoshita from Japanese metalcore band Crystal Lake. "Mayday" is the second anime opening for ''Fire Force''. "Mayday" also samples the Pakistan International Airlines Flight 661 mayday distress signal in the song's intro. Due to the success of the single being on the anime, it started rotating in circles around the metalcore scene elevating the band to new heights. Crystal Lake is a Japanese metalcore band from Tokyo, formed in 2002. The band comprises guitarists Yudai Miyamoto and Hisatsugu Taji, bassist Mitsuru, and drummer Gaku Taura, who is a former member of Nocturnal Bloodlust. ''The Revelation'' is the third studio album by Japanese rock band Coldrain. Recorded at House of Loud in Elmwood Park, New Jersey with producer David Bendeth. It was released on April 17, 2013 in Japan by VAP. The album would also later be released by Hopeless Records on June 23, 2014 in Europe and on June 24, 2014 in North America as a reissue upon being signed internationally for the first time, making ''The Revelation'' their first album to be released worldwide. Recorded at Innig Recording Hostelry in Fujisawa, Japan, which was self-produced by Masato Hayakawa and Ryo Yokochi, it was released on February 16, 2011, by VAP. ''The Enemy Inside'' was exclusively released in Japan, along with their debut studio outing ''Final Destination'', which was released two years prior. ''The Enemy Inside'' debuted at number 21 on the Oricon Albums Chart, charting for the following 5 weeks before dropping out of the charts completely. The Oricon Albums Chart is the Japanese music industry standard albums popularity chart issued daily, weekly, monthly and yearly by Oricon. Oricon originally published LP, CT, Cartridge and CD charts prior to the establishment of the Oricon Albums Chart on October 5, 1987. The Oricon Albums Chart's rankings are based on physical albums' sales. Oricon did not include download sales until its establishment of the Digital Albums Chart on November 19, 2016. In November 2018, Oricon began to include streaming in its album rankings, introducing a combined album chart based on album-equivalent units.
