The Sciences (album)
''The Sciences'' is the fourth studio album by American doom metal band Sleep. The album was released with little warning on April 20, 2018 through Third Man Records. It was the band's first full-length album since '' Dopesmoker'' (2003), on which the song "Sonic Titan" appeared as a live bonus track. Just a month after the release of ''The Sciences'', Sleep released the non-album song "Leagues Beneath" through Adult Swim's 2018 weekly single series. Background and composition In 2009, Sleep re-formed and played a handful of shows. " The Clarity", the band's first new studio material since 2003's '' Dopesmoker'', was released in 2014. In an interview with NPR Music about the release of that single, the band wrote, "Sleep has been sporadically writing riffs for a while now ..There is no preconceived idea of what the new material should be. Sleep (band)
Sleep is an American heavy metal band from San Jose, California. Guitarist Matt Pike and bassist and vocalist Al Cisneros have been the only constant members throughout its history, with several changes of drummers throughout their history. Critic Eduardo Rivadavia describes them as "perhaps the ultimate stoner rock band" and notes they exerted a strong influence on metal in the 1990s. The band first gained attention with their second album, '' Sleep's Holy Mountain'' (1992). However, conflict with the band's record company contributed to Sleep's breakup by the end of the decade. Sleep's third album, ''Dopesmoker'', was released after the band's dissolution. The band reformed in 2009 and has played sporadic live dates internationally since. MetalSucks is a heavy metal music-themed news website. The site features reviews, interviews, information on latest metal releases and blog-like posts from the writers, most notably Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg. History The site was founded in December 2006 by authors Ben Umanov and Matthew Goldenberg who use the pen names Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg. In April 2009, MetalSucks was awarded Metal Hammer's Web of Death Award for "Best Reviews" for its "honest, insightful, unpretentious – and fun – reviews." On October 4, 2009, one of the writers for MetalSucks was accused of leaking the album ''Axe to Fall'' by Converge onto the internet prior to its official release. Tony Iommi
Anthony Frank Iommi () (born 19 February 1948) is a British musician. He co-founded the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath, and was the band's guitarist, leader and primary composer and sole continuous member for nearly five decades. Iommi was ranked number 25 in ''Rolling Stone'' magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". On his last day of work in a sheet metal factory, as a teenager, Iommi lost the tips of the middle and ring fingers of his right hand in an accident, an event which crucially impacted his playing style. Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath were an English rock music, rock band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward (musician), Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. A bong (also known as a water pipe) is a filtration device generally used for smoking cannabis, tobacco, or other herbal substances. Om (sometimes stylized as OM) is an American doom metal band from San Francisco, California. Formed as a duo in 2003 by the rhythm section of the band Sleep (bassist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius), Om is currently a trio consisting of Cisneros, Emil Amos (drums), and Tyler Trotter (guitar). History Om's earliest works incorporate musical structures similar to Tibetan and Byzantine chant, as heard on the debut album '' Variations on a Theme''. The band's name itself derives from the Hindu concept of Om, which refers to the natural vibration of the universe.
