The Russell Gilbert Show
''The Russell Gilbert Show'' is a short-lived Australian comedy show hosted by Russell Gilbert in 1998. It was produced by Somers Carroll Productions and was partially a spin-off from ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'', where Gilbert had risen to prominence. The show's writers included Kevin Blond, Paul Calleja and Andrew Maj. Seven episodes were filmed and aired. Gilbert's former castmate from ''The Comedy Company'', Glenn Robbins also starred in the show. The show was successful and beat '' Ally McBeal'' (Channel 7) in the ratings. In 2000, a similar concept was attempted: ''Russell Gilbert Live'', which was followed in 2001 by ''Russell Gilbert Was Here!''. Both new shows were relatively short-lived. Russell Gilbert (born 17 October 1959) is an Australian comedian and actor from Footscray, Victoria, best known for his radio and television appearances, on programs such as ''The Comedy Company'', ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' and ''Thank God You're Here''; he is also a live stage and film actor. Career Television Gilbert has appeared in several Australian TV comedies, first attracting notice as "Russ the Postie" on ATV-10's ''The Comedy Company'' (1988–89). This role led him to a nine-year stint on GTV-9's ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' (1990–1999). Gilbert also played Kev the tow-truck driver in the sitcom ''Bingles'' (1992). Somers Carroll was formed by Daryl Somers and Ernie Carroll, to produce ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'', after original producer Gavin Disney left the series. ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' was a long-running variety television program on Australian television. It initially ran for 28 years on the Nine Network from 9 October 1971 to 20 November 1999, with a recess in 1978. Its host throughout its entire run was Daryl Somers, who later also became executive producer of the program. The original producer, Gavan Disney, left the program in the 1980s and Somers then jointly formed his own production company, Somers Carroll Productions, with comedy writer and on-screen partner Ernie Carroll, the performer of Somers' pink ostrich puppet sidekick Ossie Ostrich. On 25 July 2009, the Nine Network announced the show would return for two reunion specials in late 2009 and hinted if they rated strongly, the show could return full-time. ''The Comedy Company'' was an Australian comedy television series first aired from 16 February 1988 until about 11 November 1990 on Network Ten, Sunday night and was created and directed by cast member Ian McFadyen, and co directed and produced by Jo Lane. The show largely consisted of sketch comedy in short segments, much in the tradition of earlier sketch comedy shows, '' The Mavis Bramston Show'', '' The Naked Vicar Show'', '' Australia You're Standing In It'', and '' The D-Generation''. Glenn Maxwell Robbins (born 30 December 1957) is an Australian comedian, writer, actor, television and radio presenter. Robbins has appeared on '' The Panel'', ''Thank God You're Here'' and '' Have You Been Paying Attention?''. GTV (Australia)
GTV is a commercial television station in Melbourne, Australia, owned by the Nine Network. The station is currently based at studios at 717 Bourke Street, Docklands. History GTV-9 was amongst the first television stations to begin regular transmission in Australia. Test transmissions began on 27 September 1956, introduced by former 3DB radio announcer Geoff Corke, based at the Mount Dandenong transmitter, as the studios in Richmond were not yet ready. The station covered the 1956 Summer Olympics which Melbourne hosted., the 1956 Carols By Candlelight and the Davis Cup tennis as part of its test transmissions. The station was officially opened on 19 January 1957 by Victorian Governor Sir Dallas Brooks from the studios in Bendigo Street, Richmond.
