Somers Carroll Productions is an Australian television production company. Somers Carroll was formed by Daryl Somers and Ernie Carroll, to produce ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'', after original producer Gavin Disney left the series. Somers Carroll also produced compilation specials including ''The Best and Worst of Red Faces'', ''Hey Hey By Request'', ''The Plucka Duck Show'', ''The Ossie Ostrich Video Show'', ''Hey Hey it's the Comedians'', ''The Russell Gilbert Show'', ''Gonged but not Forgotten,'' and most recently the two ''Hey Hey'' reunion specials broadcast in 2009 and a revived series of ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' in 2010; additionally, two additional specials were broadcast in 2021 and 2022. Daryl Somers
Daryl Paul Somers (né Schulz; 6 August 1951) is an Australian television personality and musician, and a triple Gold Logie award-winner. He rose to national fame as the host and executive producer of the long-running comedy-variety program ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' and continued his television celebrity and status as host of the live-performance program ''Dancing with the Stars''. Somers was honoured in 2004 with the award of a Medal of the Order of Australia, and by Australia Post in 2018 by having his portrait featured on a series of postage stamps. Early life Somers lived in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran and was educated at the Christian Brothers College, St. Kilda. Ernie Carroll
Ernest Carroll (26 May 1929 – 30 March 2022) was an Australian puppeteer, entertainer, radio and television personality, comic writer, television producer and comic strip writer, most recognised for his role as the sidekick opposite Daryl Somers, as the man behind (and inside) Ossie Ostrich on ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'', ''Cartoon Corner'' and '' The Daryl and Ossie Show''. Hey Hey It's Saturday
''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' was a long-running variety television program on Australian television. It initially ran for 28 years on the Nine Network from 9 October 1971 to 20 November 1999, with a recess in 1978. Its host throughout its entire run was Daryl Somers, who later also became executive producer of the program. The original producer, Gavan Disney, left the program in the 1980s and Somers then jointly formed his own production company, Somers Carroll Productions, with comedy writer and on-screen partner Ernie Carroll, the performer of Somers' pink ostrich puppet sidekick Ossie Ostrich. On 25 July 2009, the Nine Network announced the show would return for two reunion specials in late 2009 and hinted if they rated strongly, the show could return full-time. The Russell Gilbert Show
''The Russell Gilbert Show'' is a short-lived Australian comedy show hosted by Russell Gilbert in 1998. It was produced by Somers Carroll Productions and was partially a spin-off from ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'', where Gilbert had risen to prominence. The show's writers included Kevin Blond, Paul Calleja and Andrew Maj. Seven episodes were filmed and aired. Gilbert's former castmate from ''The Comedy Company'', Glenn Robbins also starred in the show. The show was successful and beat '' Ally McBeal'' (Channel 7) in the ratings. In 2000, a similar concept was attempted: ''Russell Gilbert Live'', which was followed in 2001 by ''Russell Gilbert Was Here!''. Both new shows were relatively short-lived. GTV9
GTV is a commercial television station in Melbourne, Australia, owned by the Nine Network. The station is currently based at studios at 717 Bourke Street, Docklands. History GTV-9 was amongst the first television stations to begin regular transmission in Australia. Test transmissions began on 27 September 1956, introduced by former 3DB radio announcer Geoff Corke, based at the Mount Dandenong transmitter, as the studios in Richmond were not yet ready. The station covered the 1956 Summer Olympics which Melbourne hosted., the 1956 Carols By Candlelight and the Davis Cup tennis as part of its test transmissions. The station was officially opened on 19 January 1957 by Victorian Governor Sir Dallas Brooks from the studios in Bendigo Street, Richmond.
