Aalborg
Aalborg (, , ) is Denmark's fourth largest town (behind Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Odense) with a population of 119,862 (1 July 2022) in the town proper and an urban population of 143,598 (1 July 2022). As of 1 July 2022, the Municipality of Aalborg had a population of 221,082, making it the third most populous in the country after the municipalities of Copenhagen and Aarhus. Eurostat and OECD have used a definition for the Metropolitan area of Aalborg (referred to as a ''Functional urban area''), which includes all municipalities in the Province (Danish: ''landsdel'') of North Jutland (Danish: ''Nordjylland''), with a total population of 594,323 as of 1 July 2022. Budolfi Church
Budolfi Church (''Budolfi Kirke'') is the cathedral church for the Lutheran Diocese of Aalborg in north Jutland, Denmark. History Aalborg was already a town in the mid-10th century, with a fine position on the east-west Limfjord that served as a trade route between the North Sea and the Baltic until the 12th century, when the west end of Limfjord was closed by sand drifts. Aalborg became the regional trade center for northern Jutland. The Lindholm Høje at Nørresundby across the Limfjord features a notable Viking Era burial site indicating that this was a populated area of Denmark long before the town appeared on the fjord. Christian missionaries probably arrived sometime in the 9th century since nearby Viborg and Aarhus have evidence of Christian activity. Aalborghus
Aalborghus Castle ( da, Aalborghus Slot) is a castle in Aalborg, Denmark. It is a half-timbered (''bindingsværk'') castle built by King Christian III from 1539 to around 1555 initially as a fortification. A building had existed at the site before Christian III's castle. It stood south of the castle and is mentioned in the first documentation of Aalborghus, dating back to 1340. It was owned by Margrethe I and was the death place of King Hans in 1513 who died in a horse riding accident. King Frederik I had originally intended to destroy the initial building around 1530 and moving to a different site to convert Aalborg's Franciscan monastery into a castle. However he left the decision to his son Christian III, who later decided to demolish the original in 1539 and contracted the royal architect Morten Bussert to build a new fortified castle north of the old site, near the Limfjord. North Jutland Region
The North Jutland Region ( da, Region Nordjylland), or in some official sources, the North Denmark Region, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform, which abolished the traditional counties () and set up five larger regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the number of municipalities from 271 before 1 January 2006, when Ærø Municipality was created, to 98. Limfjord
The Limfjord (Danish language, common Danish: ''Limfjorden'' , in north Jutlandish dialect: ''Æ Limfjord'') is a shallow part of the sea, located in Denmark where it has been regarded as a fjord ever since Viking Age, Viking times. Frederikshavn
Frederikshavn () is a Danish town in Frederikshavn municipality, Region Nordjylland, on the northeast coast of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. Its name translates to "Frederik's harbor".
