The Red Door
Red Door was a 2,000 SF event and music space located in the heart of Chelsea, Manhattan, Chelsea, New York City, that remained private to the public for 37 years. Its name changed over the years, but always based on the colors of the front door (previous incarnations were Green Door and Purple Door). The venue attracted a wide array of celebrities and personalities in the music and entertainment world. History In 1978, Giorgio Gomelsky purchased a small industrial townhouse near the Hotel Chelsea, Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan, steps from Andy Warhol’s Factory. The space previously served as a printing press, and Gomelsky ultimately decided to turn the space into an accessible and affordable place for talented musicians and artists to develop, create and showcase their works. Jason Reischel
Jason Reischel (born April 19, 1976) is an American singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York who sometimes goes by the stage name My Cousin, The Emperor. Early life and education Reischel was born on April 19, 1976, in Huntington, New York, and was raised in Asheville, North Carolina. He began writing songs when he was 12 years old. He attended North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, North Carolina, majoring in history with dual minors in political science and classical studies. He moved to New York City in 2004, and began performing as a solo singer-songwriter. Career Reischel began playing guitar when he was ten years old, and wrote his first song when he was in seventh grade. The Walkmen
The Walkmen is an American indie rock band. Active from 2000 to 2013, they are known as part of the 2000s-era post-punk revival in New York City, particularly for their critically acclaimed single "The Rat (song), The Rat." The Rapture (band)
The Rapture is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1998. The band currently consists of Luke Jenner (lead vocals, guitar), Vito Roccoforte (drums, percussion), and Gabriel Andruzzi (keyboards, bass, saxophone, percussion). The classic lineup (1999-2009) added Mattie Safer playing bass and sharing lead vocal duties with Jenner. Richard Lloyd (born October 25, 1951) is an American guitarist and songwriter, best known as a founding member of the rock band Television. Early life Lloyd first became interested in music as a small child. He saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show and experienced the phenomenon of Beatlemania, later going on to follow the British Invasion back to its roots in Blues and Jazz. Lloyd attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City. In his early teens, he studied drums with William Kessler, who was the ghostwriter for Cozy Cole, one of the famous big-band drummers. Richard Hell
Richard Lester Meyers (born October 2, 1949), better known by his stage name Richard Hell, is an American singer, songwriter, bass guitarist and writer. Hell was in several important early punk rock bands, including Neon Boys, Television and The Heartbreakers, after which he formed Richard Hell & the Voidoids.
