The Quechua Alliance
The Quechua Alliance is a community organization that promotes and celebrates Andean culture in the United States. Annual meetings Since 2015, the Quechua Alliance has held annual meetings where students, activists, academics, and the interested public participate to learn about innovative projects in the different varieties of Quechua, as well as to raise awareness about the relevance of the Indigenous languages of the Americas. For each edition, about one-hundred people from across the US participate. The first editions were held at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia (2015, 2016, 2018) and also has been hosted at New York University in New York City (2017), at Ohio State University in Columbus (2019), at the University of California, Berkeley (2020 - virtual), and at Harvard University (2023) in the Boston area. Language Rights
Linguistic rights are the human and civil rights concerning the individual and collective right to choose the language or languages for communication in a private or public atmosphere. Other parameters for analyzing linguistic rights include the degree of territoriality, amount of positivity, orientation in terms of assimilation or maintenance, and overtness. Linguistic rights include, among others, the right to one's own language in legal, administrative and judicial acts, language education, and media in a language understood and freely chosen by those concerned. Kichwa Hatari is the first Kichwa-language radio station in the United States, broadcasting in a variation of the Quechua language spoken by indigenous Ecuadorean Kichwas. History Kichwa Hatari was founded in 2014 in New York, to broadcast from New York City in Kichwa. The Kichwa language is a regional variation of the Quechua language, and has been listed by UNESCO as an endangered language.
