The Private Eyes (1976 Film)
''The Private Eyes'' is a 1976 Hong Kong comedy film written, directed by and starring Michael Hui and co-starring his brothers Samuel Hui and Ricky Hui as well as Shih Kien and Richard Ng in his second film role. John Woo was the production designer and also co-director, though he was uncredited. Sammo Hung served as the film's action director and Jackie Chan was also a stuntman. This is the third film of the Hui Brothers and it is the first film that established the Hui Brothers' comedies internationally. It became the highest-grossing film in Hong Kong at the time. Overview The film's Chinese title is ''半斤八兩''. The film is also known as Mr. Boo in Japan. Plot The film revolves around the exploits of a detective agency in Hong Kong called Mannix Private Detective Agency. Michael Hui
Michael Hui Koon-man (born ; 3 September 1942) (also known as Mr Boo!) is a Hong Kong actor, comedian, scriptwriter and director. He is the eldest of the four Hui brothers (together with Ricky, Sam, and Stanley) who were prominent figures in the Hong Kong entertainment industry during the 1970s and the 1980s. Michael Hui is considered by many critics to be one of the foremost comedians in the Hong Kong film industry. Education Hui studied in La Salle College, and then earned a degree in sociology from the United College, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Nunchaku
is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks (traditionally made of wood), connected to each other at their ends by a short metal chain or a rope. It is approximately 30 cm (sticks) and 1 inch (rope). A person who has practiced using this weapon is referred to in Japanese as nunchakuka. The nunchaku is most widely used in martial arts such as Okinawan kobudō and karate. It is intended to be used as a training weapon, since practicing with it enables the development of quick hand movements and improves posture. Modern nunchaku may be made of metal, plastic or fiberglass instead of the traditional wood. Toy versions and replicas not intended to be used as weapons may be made of polystyrene foam or plastic. ''Front Page'' (Chinese: 新半斤八兩) is a 1990 Hong Kong comedy film directed by Philip Chan and starring Michael Hui, Samuel Hui and Ricky Hui. The film is a remake of the Hui Brothers' 1976 film, '' The Private Eyes''. Plot Hui (Michael Hui) is the chief editor of "Truth Weekly" (內幕周刊), which is based on intellectual contents, resulting in sluggish sales. Because of this, the magazine company is on the verge for closure. Martial arts instructor Mad Bill (Samuel Hui) was recently dismissed from his job and applies for a position at the magazine company. Bill proposes to Hui that they convert the magazine to cover entertainment news, especially scandals involving female celebrities. Chieh Yuan (15 March 1945 – 16 November 1977) was an actor and martial artist. He was an actor for Shaw Brothers and in 1972, he was cast in Bruce Lee's ''The Game of Death''. Lily Leung Shun-Yin (; 7 January 1929 – 13 August 2019) was a Hong Kong actress. Born in Hong Kong Leung attended Belilios Public School. Career Leung started her acting career in 1957.
