The Pictures
The Pictures are an Australian rock band based in Melbourne, Victoria. They were founded in 2000 as a side-project by Davey Lane, the lead guitarist of Australian alternative rock band You Am I. In their initial run, The Pictures released three studio albums, as well as three EPs. The Pictures debut album, ''Pieces of Eight'', was recorded in February 2005 at Sing Sing Studios, Melbourne. For that album, with Lane, on lead vocals and guitar, were Luke Thomas on vocals and bass guitar and Johnny T on vocals and drums. In June the album peaked at No. 7 on the ARIA Hitseekers Albums Chart. Their debut single, "Pissin' with the Catman", reached the top 100 in May 2005 on the related ARIA Singles Chart. Its follow-up, "I Don't Care", peaked at No. 37 in September. Melbourne ( ; Boonwurrung/Woiwurrung: ''Narrm'' or ''Naarm'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. ''Like a Version'' is a weekly segment on Australian youth radio station Triple J. It involves Australian and international artists playing two songs live in the Triple J studio, one of their own songs (an "original") and then a cover version, hence the name of the segment. The title is wordplay on the Madonna song " Like a Virgin". It was created by Mel Bampton as part of the ''Mel in the Morning'' program. The segment was later moved to Robbie Buck's Drive program, and then to the Breakfast Show. Due to the intimate nature of the studio, the performance is often acoustic or otherwise stripped-back, however some bands have stretched this concept. The segment has grown in popularity over the years, leading to the release of compilation CDs featuring the best covers. Some particularly well-received covers have also made it into the Triple J Hottest 100. "Milkshake" is a song by American singer Kelis from her third studio album, '' Tasty'' (2003). Written and produced by the Neptunes, the song was originally offered to Britney Spears for her fourth studio album, ''In the Zone'', but was instead given to Kelis. It was released as the lead single from ''Tasty'' in the United States on August 25, 2003, by Star Trak and Arista Records, and internationally on November 24, 2003. Kelis
Kelis Rogers-Mora (; born August 21, 1979), known mononymously as Kelis, is an American singer, songwriter and a professionally trained chef. At age 14, she was admitted to New York's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she learned to play the saxophone and won a spot in the Girls Choir of Harlem. After she graduated from high school in 1997, Kelis took on a variety of jobs before landing a backup vocal slot on an album track called "Fairytalez", released by the American hip hop group Gravediggaz. She then began working with music producers Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, known as The Neptunes, which ultimately resulted in her being signed to Virgin Records in 1998.
