The Pacific Show Band
The Pacific Showband were a popular Irish showband group in the 1960s. They were formed as a result of some members leaving the Earl Gill Orchestra and deciding to form their own band. They had a number of hits during the 1960s. They released 20 singles from 1964 to 1970 on the Pye Records and Tribune Records labels. In 1968, Peter Law joined the band as a vocalist. The following year the band undertook their first tour of Canada, touring that country several more times before moving there permanently in 1971 and changing their name to Dublin Corporation. Under their new name, they had chart hits in Canada with "Melting Pot" and "Come and Join Us", and released the album ''Limited'' on Arc Records in 1973. Although they never released any further albums or singles, they remained active for a number of years thereafter as a touring band. Irish Showband
The Irish showband was a dance band format popular in Ireland from the mid-1950s to mid-1980s. The showband was based on the internationally popular six- or seven-piece dance band. The band's basic repertoire included standard dance numbers and covers of pop music hits. The versatile music ranged from rock and roll and country and western songs to traditional dixieland jazz and even Irish Céilí dance, Newfie stomps, folk music and waltzes. Key to a showband's popular success was the ability to perform songs currently in the record charts. Some bands also did comedy skits onstage. The line-up usually featured a rhythm section of drums, lead, rhythm and bass guitars, a keyboard instrument, and a brass section of trumpet, saxophone and trombone. Earl Gill
Earl William Gill (14 October 1932 – 4 May 2014) was an Irish trumpet-player and bandleader who, with the Hoedowners, achieved fourteen Top 20 hits in the Irish charts between 1966 and 1973. As "Tim Pat", he also had a solo hit in 1971 with a novelty song, "Poor Poor Farmer". Pye Records
Pye Records was a British record label. Its best known artists were Lonnie Donegan (1956–1969), Petula Clark (1957–1971), the Searchers (1963–1967), the Kinks (1964–1971), Sandie Shaw (1964–1971), Status Quo (1968–1971) and Brotherhood of Man (1975–1979). The label changed its name to PRT Records (distributing as Precision Records & Tapes) in 1980, before being briefly reactivated as Pye Records in 2006. Arc Records (Canada)
Arc Records, owned by founder Phil G. Anderson through his Arc Sound holding company, was a record label based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Some of the artists to have their work released on the label include the Abbey Tavern Singers, Terry Black, Dublin Corporation and Marg Osburne. Background Phil G. Anderson started the company's operations in April 1958, originally oriented to providing Canadian promotion, merchandising and distribution for other labels. Arc started manufacturing its own records in 1959. As of 1968, the president was Anderson and the vice-president was Bill Gilliland. Barbara Law, née Dixon (born April 4, 1952) is an Irish-Canadian actress and singer.
