''Beyond the Neighbourhood'' is the third studio album by English rock band Athlete, released on 3 September 2007 by Parlophone. After touring in support of their second studio album ''Tourist'' wrapped up by early 2006, the band met up to exchange ideas for new songs. Soon afterwards, they built their own studio in Greenwich, London and opted to produce their next album by themselves. They experimented with beats and did jam sessions; different parts of the album were mixed by Ben H. Allen and Cenzo Townshend. The songs on ''Beyond the Neighbourhood'' mixed electronica and rock, while the themes tackle topics such as the effects of modern living, war and global warming. ''Beyond the Neighbourhood'' received mixed reviews from music critics, some saying that Athlete were unsure of their style, while others lambasted their choice to self-produce it. Athlete (band)
Athlete was an English indie rock band formed in Deptford, London, comprising Joel Pott (lead vocals and guitar), Carey Willetts (bass and backing vocals), Stephen Roberts (drums and backing vocals), Tim Wanstall (keyboards) and Alexander PJ Elkins (backing vocals). The band had a brief period of high-profile domestic success in which their debut album ''Vehicles & Animals'' (2003) was a platinum seller in 2005 and Mercury Music Prize nomination. It was followed up by ''Tourist'' (2005) which reached No. 1 and sold over 500,000 copies allowing this album to also go platinum. Athlete's subsequent two albums, '' Beyond the Neighbourhood'' (2007) and ''Black Swan'' (2009), saw the band exploring different styles, influenced by the works of artists such as Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Digital Interface For Video And Audio
The Digital Interface for Video and Audio (DIVA or DiiVA) was a proposal for a bi-directional audio/video interface for transmitting both compressed and uncompressed digital streams. It was developed by Synerchip Company, Limited, based in Guangzhou and Sunnyvale, California. DIVA supports a downstream data rate (from source to display) of 13.5 Gbit/s which is capable of deep color at resolutions higher than 1080p. DIVA also supports a 2.25 Gbit/s bi-directional communication data channel that can carry multiple sub-channels (audio, control, compressed video, etc.). This gives DIVA a raw bi-directional data rate of 18 Gbit/s or a usable bi-directional data rate of 14.4 Gbit/s (because of 8b/10b encoding). Joel Pott
Joel Laslett Pott (born 20 January 1979 in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England) is an English musician. He was the lead vocalist and guitarist of the indie band Athlete between 2000 and their split in 2013 and a songwriter. Biography While a child, he was bought some drums by his parents. These ultimately "didn't work out" and he was then given a nylon string guitar at the age of six. In his teenage years, he listened to British bands such as Blur, Radiohead and Oasis. He has cited Blur guitarist Graham Coxon as an influence on his own playing of the instrument. Pott went to Trinity school in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester and then to Hillcrest School in Bellingham, near Catford in London, later studying graphic design, photography and English for his A levels at the Brit School of Performing Arts and Technology.
