The Omni Group
The Omni Group is an American software company that develops software for the macOS, iOS, and watchOS platforms. The Omni Group was informally founded as a NEXTSTEP consulting company in 1989 by Wil Shipley, who immediately brought on Ken Case and Tim Wood. The three incorporated together under the name Omni Development, Inc. in 1993, because the name "Omni Group" was taken by another Seattle firm. Omni initially produced custom database software for the NEXTSTEP platform for clients such as the William Morris Agency and McCaw Cellular Communications (then Cingular Wireless; now AT&T Inc.). During this period they also ported a number of games to NEXTSTEP, then later to Mac OS X (after Apple acquired NeXT in 1997). Around 2000 the company decided to start focusing on their own consumer applications for the Mac, and as of 2004 the vast majority of their revenue came from their consumer products. In 2003, Ken Case took over as the chief officer of Omni, and in March 2004 Wil ...

Source Port
A source port is a software project based on the source code of a game engine that allows the game to be played on operating systems or computing platforms with which the game was not originally compatible. Description Source ports are often created by fans after the original developer hands over the maintenance support for a game by releasing its source code to the public (see List of commercial video games with later released source code). The term was coined after the release of the source code to Doom. Due to copyright issues concerning the sound library used by the original DOS version, id Software released only the source code to the Linux version of the game. Since the majority of Doom players were DOS users the first step for a fan project was to ''port'' the Linux ''source'' code to DOS. A legitimate source port includes only the engine portion of the game and requires that the data files of the game in question already be present on users' systems. Source ports are in n ...

Xcode
Xcode is Apple's integrated development environment (IDE) for macOS, used to develop software for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS. It was initially released in late 2003; the latest stable release is version 14.2, released on December 13, 2022, via the Mac App Store with macOS Monterey. The software suite is offered free of charge. Registered developers can download preview releases and prior versions of the suite through the Apple Developer website. Xcode includes command-line tools which enable UNIX-style development via the Terminal app in macOS. They can also be downloaded and installed without the GUI. Major features Xcode supports source code for the programming languages: C, C++, Objective-C, Objective-C++, Java, AppleScript, Python, Ruby, ResEdit (Rez), and Swift, with a variety of programming models, including but not limited to Cocoa, Carbon, and Java. Third parties have added support for GNU Pascal, Free Pascal, Ada, C#, Go, Perl, and D. Xcode can build ' ...

Application Framework
In computer programming, an application framework consists of a software framework used by software developers to implement the standard structure of application software. Application frameworks became popular with the rise of graphical user interfaces (GUIs), since these tended to promote a standard structure for applications. Programmers find it much simpler to create automatic GUI creation tools when using a standard framework, since this defines the underlying code structure of the application in advance. Developers usually use object-oriented programming (OOP) techniques to implement frameworks such that the unique parts of an application can simply inherit from classes extant in the framework. Examples Apple Computer developed one of the first commercial application frameworks, MacApp (first release 1985), for the Macintosh. Originally written in an extended (object-oriented) version of Pascal termed Object Pascal, it was later rewritten in C++. Another notable framewor ...

OmniFocus
OmniFocus is a personal task manager by the Omni Group for macOS and iOS. The declared goal of the program is to be able to capture thoughts and ideas into to do lists. The program uses concepts and techniques described in the book and productivity system called ''Getting Things Done'' (GTD) by David Allen. History OmniFocus has its roots in the Kinkless kGTD add/scripts for the Omni Group's OmniOutliner product. Kinkless (kGTD) was developed by Ethan J. A. Schoonover to enable those following the GTD methodology. The Omni Group subsequently brought Ethan along with Merlin Mann to form a project team to create the OmniFocus application. In 2018, version 3 of OmniFocus was released for iOS and macOS. With the release, the previous concept of contexts taken from GTD was replaced with tags. Platforms macOS OmniFocus is available for macOS. iOS OmniFocus is available on iOS (including the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad). Android The Omni Group does not have plans to provide an ...

OmniWeb
OmniWeb is a discontinued web browser that was developed and marketed by The Omni Group exclusively for Apple's macOS operating system. Though a stable version is no longer maintained, it is still available as a free download and unstable versions are still being released. History OmniWeb was originally developed by Omni Group for the NeXTSTEP platform, and was released by Lighthouse Design on March 17, 1995 after only one month's development time. As NeXTSTEP evolved into OPENSTEP and then Mac OS X, OmniWeb was updated to run on these platforms. These early versions of OmniWeb also run on Microsoft Windows through the Yellow Box or the OpenStep frameworks. After Lighthouse Design was bought by Sun Microsystems, the Omni Group released the product themselves, from version 2.5 onwards. From version 4.0 onwards, OmniWeb was developed solely for the OS X platform. OmniWeb was developed using the Cocoa API which allow it to take full advantage of OS X features. It uses Quartz to rende ...

OmniPlan
OmniPlan is a planning and project management software product from The Omni Group, headquartered in Seattle, Washington. The software was released as a public beta on June 6, 2006. In a June 2007 evaluation of OmniPlan 1.0, Macworld, a web site and monthly computer magazine dedicated to Apple Macintosh products, found the customizability of OmniPlan 1.0 to be "superior", but said the software was unlikely to meet the needs of project managers with multiple, complex projects. Version 4 of OmniPlan was released on July 15 2020 and added interval tracking, recurring tasks, auto-hiding of completed tasks, changes to scheduling abilities, a project wizard to set up new projects in the app, updated outline and resource views, a flat-file save format (in addition to the current package-based format), and an optional dark-themed UI mode. Purpose OmniPlan is used to manage multi-resource projects using Gantt Charts. The program acts as a dashboard, showing the status of each task an ...

Alternatives include DaisyDisk and GrandPerspective. Its interface presents a column view similar to the macOS Finder. OmniDiskSweeper supports internal and external drives, and network volumes. It warns users when selecting files that are required by macOS or by installed applications, though this only works for applications installed with macOS's Installer utility, based on BOM files. The program was first released in April 2001 as shareware Shareware is a type of proprietary software that is initially shared by the owner for trial use at little or no cost.
