The Oaks (Keachi, Louisiana)
The Oaks is a historic mansion located along Louisiana Highway 172, about west of Keachi, Louisiana, U.S.. It was built in Greek Revival c.1855 by Henry F. Fullilove. The house was sold to Silas F. Talbert and his wife, Bella Horn Talbert, in 1877 and remained property of Talbert family until c.1960. In 1974 the mansion was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Donald B. Keachi, Louisiana
Keachi (pronounced "key-chai"; also spelled Keatchie or Keachie) is a town in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 295 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Keachi features several sites on the National Register of Historic Places, including Allen House, Keachi Baptist Church, Keachi Presbyterian Church, Keachi Store, Keachi United Methodist Church, Liberty Lodge, The Oaks, Prude House, Spell House, and the Swearingen House. It also includes Keachie College. During the American Civil War, the Keatchie "highlanders" obtained $1,500 from the DeSoto Parish Police Jury for the war effort. Greek Revival Architecture
The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. It revived many aspects of the forms and styles of ancient Greek architecture, in particular the Greek temple, with varying degrees of thoroughness and consistency. A product of Hellenism, it may be looked upon as the last phase in the development of Neoclassical architecture, which had for long mainly drawn from Roman architecture.
