The New Fellas
''The New Fellas'' is the second studio album by British indie rock band The Cribs, released in June 2005. It placed at No. 11 in ''NME''s "Albums of the Year" edition, 2005. Background Having become more of a part of the music scene following the release of their self-titled debut album, much of ''The New Fellas lyrics deal with the band's disgust at the attitudes of their so-called peers. Recording The Cribs chose Edwyn Collins to produce ''The New Fellas'' because they were fans of his old band Orange Juice and because he shared their attitude towards the music industry. Reception In 2007, the song "Hey Scenesters!" was named one of the "Greatest Indie Anthems Ever" by music magazine ''NME''. In December 2009, ''Q Magazine'' chose it as one of their "Albums of the Century" in their year end issue. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs)
Charles Richard Wilson (born 17 January 1978) is an English singer-songwriter, artist and the frontman of five-piece band Kaiser Chiefs. Before the formation of the band, in 2003, Wilson was a member of the band Runston Parva (later known as Parva), which consisted of members of Kaiser Chiefs. On 19 September 2013, Wilson was confirmed as a coach on ''The Voice UK''. He was the winning coach for both the fourth and fifth series of the show, being the only coach to win two years consecutively. Wilson left the show after three series, following the show's move to ITV. Early life Wilson was born in Keighley, West Yorkshire to Glynne and TV producer, Geoff Wilson. He has one brother, James. Comet Gain are a British indie pop band, formed by singer-songwriter and guitarist David Christian (aka David Feck/Charlie Damage) in 1992, with musical influences including post-punk and northern soul. "Hey Scenesters!" was the first single from English post-punk revival band The Cribs second album '' The New Fellas''. The single charted at number 27 in April 2005, becoming their first Top 40 single. In its year of release, the song was voted the 3rd best song of the year by the NME, Track of the Year by the Metro newspaper, and finished in the top 100 tracks of the year in Rolling Stone in the USA. In May 2007, the song placed 42nd in the influential music paper NME's "Top Indie Anthems of All Time", one of the only contemporary bands included in the list. Drummer Ross Jarman told ''Mojo'' magazine that this song was fueled by the band's experiences: "playing Brixton Windmill, full of kids who were only there because they thought it made them look cool." Gary Jarman
Gary John Jarman is a British multi-instrumentalist, best known for being bassist and singer in the Wakefield music group The Cribs. Formed in 2002, The Cribs have released eight albums to date, and numerous singles and EPs. their latest three records have charted in the UK top 10, alongside 7 top 40 singles. He has lived in Portland, Oregon, since 2006. The band consists of his twin brother Ryan and his younger brother Ross. Gary is the most political member of The Cribs, and can regularly be heard in interviews criticizing inequality and misogyny in the music industry. This could be attributed to the fact that he spent a few years prior to the band's success, participating as part of the committee that put on the UK's first "Ladyfest" in London, and also numerous fundraisers around this time. ''Q'' was a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1986 by broadcast journalists Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, who were presenters of the BBC television music series ''The Old Grey Whistle Test''.
