With an estimated population of 147,255 as of 2019, the city contains the majority of the residents of the sparsely populated Northern Territory. The City of Darwin is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. It includes the central business district of the capital, Darwin City, and represents two-thirds of its metropolitan population. The City covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 84,613 people. History The first Town and District Council was formed in 1874. The Darwin Town Council was created in 1915. From 1921 the five member Council had been elected on a ratepayer's franchise. In 1930 the Mayor and Councillors resigned in protest against the re-introduction of adult suffrage. Fong Lim is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. The district is named after Alec Fong Lim, Lord Mayor of Darwin from 1984 to 1990. There were 5,555 people enrolled in the division in August 2020. The seat is currently held by Mark Monaghan of the Labor Party. Geography Fong Lim is located in the suburban corridor south of the Stuart Highway in Darwin. __NOTOC__ Eaton is a suburb in the Northern Territory of Australia located in the city of Darwin. It consists of the land occupied by the Darwin International Airport and RAAF Base Darwin. Eaton is named in commemoration of Charles Eaton (1895 - 1979), a senior officer in the Royal Australian Air Force whose service included appointment as the “Station Commander of RAAF Darwin” in 1940. The suburb’s boundary and name were gazetted on 4 April 2007. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Eaton had 213 people living within its boundaries.
