The Mysterious Monk
''Mysterious Monk'' (russian: Таинственный монах, Tainstvenniy monakh) is a 1967 Stereoscopic 3-D action film directed by Arkady Koltsaty starring Vladimir Druzhnikov, Evgeny Zharikov, Valentin Zubkov and Tatyana Konyukhova. It was filmed in the Soviet stereoscopic system “Stereo-70”. For many years it held the record among Soviet stereofilms for the most rentals, for both 3D and 2D screenings. Plot Set during the Russian Civil War, Ukraine, in the autumn of 1920, two Chekist former circus performers attempt to foil the plans of the White Russian army, remnants of which have hidden in a monastery. A more experienced Chekist enters the monastery in the guise of Lieutenant Stronsky to uncover the enemy's plans. Vladimir Vasilievich Druzhnikov (russian: Влади́мир Васи́льевич Дру́жников; 30 May 1922 – 20 February 1994) was a Soviet actor. He appeared in more than 40 films between 1945 and 1992. Stanislav Yulianovich Chekan (russian: Станисла́в Юлиа́нович Чека́н; 2 June 1922, Rostov-on-Don — 11 August 1994, Moscow) was a Soviet actor of theater and cinema, known primarily for his blue-collar manly appearance, and character actor roles of a stereotypical "big guy." Biography Stanislav Chekan was born in Rostov-on-Don on 2 June 1922. When he was 15 years old, his father was arrested as an enemy of the people. Stanislav was sent to a labor colony, where he first began to participate in amateur activities. Then he was sent to a vocational school, but on the way he turned to Rostov, where he entered another school, a theater school. From 1938 to 1941 he studied at the studio of Yuri Zavadsky in the Theater School of Rostov-on-Don. Pyotr Stanislavovich Sobolevsky (russian: Пётр Станиславович Соболевский; 22 May 1904 – 26 June 1977) was a Soviet actor. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1926 and 1973. Biography Sobolevsky was born on 22 May 1904 in Tomsk. He studied at the (FEKS) under Grigori Kozintsev and Leonid Trauberg. He graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Theater in 1932. Alexander Borisovich Belyavsky (russian: Алекса́ндр Бори́сович Беля́вский, 6 May 1932 – 8 September 2012) was a Soviet/Russian actor who appeared in more than one hundred films. Belyavsky was also the first presenter of the popular TV Show ''The 13 Chairs Tavern''. In 1988 he was designated a Meritorious Artist of Russia; in 2003, he was named a People's Artist of Russia.
