The Mechanoids
''The Mechanoids'' is a science fiction role-playing game published by Palladium Books in 1985 that is based on the earlier role-playing game ''The Mechanoid Invasion''. Description ''The Mechanoids'' is set one month after the events described in the original ''The Mechanoid Invasion'', an alien invasion by a race known as the Mechanoids, who are bent on destroying humanity. The players must try to find out more about the plans of the Mechanoids, and search for ancient weapons buried deep in the Earth that can help them. The book includes character generation, a timeline of the alien invasion that forms the focus of the game, notable people, weapons, information about the Mechanoid aliens, and ancient weapons. Palladium Books is a publisher of role-playing games (RPGs) perhaps best known for its popular, expansive '' Rifts'' series (1990–present). Palladium was founded April 1981 in Detroit, Michigan by current president and lead game designer Kevin Siembieda, and is now based in Westland, Michigan. ''The Mechanoid Invasion'' (and its source books, supplements and sequels) was the first role-playing game from Palladium Books, conceived and written by Kevin Siembieda, with contributions from Erick Wujcik. Concept ''The Mechanoid Invasion'' centered on a powerful, malevolent, and numerous race of bio-driven machines that had come to invade a planet called Gideon E that was colonized by humans. In its original edition, published in 1981, the game was published as a series of three comic-book sized sourcebooks: #the first, ''The Mechanoid Invasion'', dealt with the eponymous invasion of Gideon E #the second, ''Journey'', dealt with human survivors living within a mechanoid mothership after the destruction of the Gideon E colony and introduced "minor magic and some psionics", #the third, ''Homeworld'', dealt with the Mechanoid homeworld itself. Kevin Siembieda
Kevin Siembieda (born April 2, 1956) is an American artist, writer, designer and publisher of role-playing games. Career Siembieda is a third-generation Polish American. He attended the College for Creative Studies in Detroit from 1974 to 1977. He wanted to be a comic book artist, but found the industry difficult to break into and published a small-press comic (''A+ Plus'', 1977-1978) with his company, Megaton Publications. In 1979 Siembieda discovered the '' Dungeons & Dragons Basic Rulebook'' and joined a role-playing group, the Wayne Street Weregamers, which met at Wayne State University in Detroit (where he befriended Erick Wujcik, who ran the group). Siembieda ran a game for the group, the Palladium of Desires, a combination of ''AD&D'' and his house rules. Evil Hat Productions is a company that produces role-playing games and other tabletop games. Chief among them is the free indie RPG, ''Fate'', which has won numerous awards. History Fred Hicks had been working with Lydia Leong, Rob Donoghue, and others to run LARPs at AmberCon NorthWest starting in 1999, and came up with the name Evil Hat for themselves. While on a trip to Lake Tahoe, friends Hicks and Donoghue developed a new game based on a conversation about running another ''Amber'' game and fixing some problems with ''FUDGE''; the result was ''Fate'' which Hicks and Donoghue would publish under the name Evil Hat. Donoghue and Hicks released a complete first-edition of ''Fate'' through Yahoo! Groups (January 2003) then cleaned up the technical writing and slightly polished the system for a second edition (August 2003).
