The Marshmallow Overcoat
The Marshmallow Overcoat is an American garage rock band, formed in Tucson, Arizona, in 1986 by lead singer Timothy Gassen under his "Randy Love" persona. They are considered an essential part of the paisley/ neo-psychedelia bands that formed the 1980s. History The Marshmallow Overcoat's first recording deal was with Dionysus Records in Los Angeles who released their first LP, ''The Inner Groove'', in 1987. They received international attention for their brand of "modern psychedelia", and for generating the "Arizona sound." Influenced by The Chocolate Watchband, The Doors, The Beatles, The Byrds, Fuzztones, early Miracle Workers, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Electric Prunes, 1960's garage/psychedelic music, their sound incorporates traditional fuzz with elements associated with these other genres, such as the use of the Farfisa organ and 12-string Rickenbacker guitars, re-created without clichéd regurgitation. Farfisa
Farfisa (Fabbriche Riunite di Fisarmoniche) is a manufacturer of electronics based in Osimo, Italy, founded in 1946. The company manufactured a series of compact electronic organs in the 1960s and 1970s, including the Compact, FAST, Professional and VIP ranges, and later, a series of other keyboard instruments. They were used by a number of popular musicians including Sam the Sham, Pink Floyd, Sly Stone, Blondie, and the B-52s. The company was formed after three Italian accordion manufacturers combined to form a single company. They began to produce electronic instruments in the late 1950s, and combo organs were introduced in response to similar instruments such as the Vox Continental. The relatively inexpensive Italian labour allowed Farfisa to sell their products cheaper than the competition, which led to their commercial success. The Good's Gone
"The Good's Gone" is a song by English rock band the Who, written by their guitarist Pete Townshend. Initially recorded and sequenced as the third track of their debut My Generation (album), ''My Generation'' in December 1965, it was released as the B-side to "La-La-La-Lies" in November 1966. Heavily inspired by Ray Davies song "See My Friends", Townshend wrote the track with blues in mind. The song is notable for its unusual chord progression and ambiguous lyrics. Generally perceived as an underrated and overlooked song in the Who's catalogue, "The Good's Gone" was generally positively reviewed by critics and audiences, with many noting the guitar sound on the track, however, lead singer Roger Daltrey's vocal performance has received mixed response. It premiered on Friday, June 3, 1983, and the first music video it aired was "Family Man" by Hall & Oates, from their ''H2O'' album.
