Attaché
In diplomacy, an attaché is a person who is assigned ("to be attached") to the diplomatic or administrative staff of a higher placed person or another service or agency. Although a loanword from French, in English the word is not modified according to gender. An attaché is normally an official, who serves either as a diplomat or as a member of the support staff, under the authority of an ambassador or other head of a diplomatic mission, mostly in intergovernmental organizations or international non-governmental organisations or agencies. Attachés monitor various issues related to their area of specialty (see examples below) that may require some action. To this end, attachés may undertake the planning for events to be attended, decisions which will be taken, managing arrangements and agendas, conducting research, and acting as a representative of the interests of their state when necessary, to the types of organizations mentioned above, and also to national academies and to ...

Cardassian
The Cardassians () are a fictional extraterrestrial species in the American science fiction franchise '' Star Trek''. They were devised in 1991 for the series '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'' before being used in the subsequent series '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'', '' Star Trek: Voyager''. The writers of ''The Next Generation'' introduced the Cardassians for the fourth season episode " The Wounded". The species was devised as new antagonists for the crew of the USS ''Enterprise''-D, ones with whom the protagonists could interact; the other major antagonists of ''The Next Generation'', the Borg, lacked personality or individuality, hindering interpersonal drama. In the series, set in the 24th century, the Cardassians are presented as living under a military government controlling an interstellar empire, the Cardassian Union. They are depicted occupying other planets, most notably Bajor. When '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'' was launched in 1993, its writers set its events ...

Maquis (Star Trek)
In the ''Star Trek'' science fiction franchise, the Maquis are a 24th-century paramilitary organization-terrorist group (like the World War II Maquis in the French Resistance and the Spanish Maquis that emerged in the Spanish Civil War). The group is introduced in the two-part episode "The Maquis" of the television series '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'', building on a plot foundation introduced in the episode "Journey's End" of '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'', and appear in later episodes of those two series as well as '' Star Trek: Voyager''. The Maquis story debuted when three ''Star Trek'' television shows running from 1987 to 2001 took place in the same fictional science-fiction universe at the same time in the future (the 2360s–2370s). As a result, the Maquis story was told across several episodes across all three shows. The Maquis are especially prominent in ''Star Trek: Voyager'', as the fundamental premise of the series is that a Starfleet crew and a Maquis crew are ...

Bajor
The Bajorans (variously pronounced , , ) are a fictional species in the science-fiction '' Star Trek'' franchise. They are a humanoid extraterrestrial species native to the planet Bajor, who have a long-standing enmity with the Cardassians, owing to decades of subjugation under a military dictatorship which saw many of their species enslaved or forced into exile away from their homeworld. They were first introduced in the 1991 episode " Ensign Ro" of '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'', and subsequently were a pivotal element of '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'' and also appeared in '' Star Trek: Voyager''. The shows' writers initially depicted the Bajorans as an oppressed people who were often forced to live as refugees, whom they likened to a variety of ethnic groups. Rick Berman, who helped to originally conceive them, compared them to "The Kurds, the Palestinians, the Jews, the boat people from Haiti—unfortunately, the homeless and terrorism are problems in every age." ...

Galactic Quadrant (Star Trek)
Several films and episodes of the science fiction franchise ''Star Trek'' are set in distinct astrographical regions of space. Some of these fictional locations exhibit anomalous physical properties; others are defined as sensitive buffer zones under various fictional political accords. This list describes some of the more significant settings for ''Star Trek'' films or story arcs over multiple television episodes. Badlands The Badlands comprise an area of space that appears (or is referenced) in episodes of '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'' and '' Star Trek: Voyager''. Located in ''Star Trek''s Alpha Quadrant, the Badlands are characterized by constant plasma storms and funnel clouds. The Maquis use it in several episodes as a meeting or hiding place because of its treacherous navigation. It is also known to harbor some planets hidden within the clouds and nebulae. In "Caretaker", the pilot episode of ''Star Trek: Voyager'', the titular starship pursues a Maquis ship into th ...

Wormhole
A wormhole (Einstein-Rosen bridge) is a hypothetical structure connecting disparate points in spacetime, and is based on a special Solutions of the Einstein field equations, solution of the Einstein field equations. A wormhole can be visualized as a tunnel with two ends at separate points in spacetime (i.e., different locations, different points in time, or both). Wormholes are consistent with the General relativity, general theory of relativity, but whether wormholes actually exist remains to be seen. Many scientists postulate that wormholes are merely projections of a Four-dimensional space, fourth spatial dimension, analogous to how a two-dimensional (2D) being could experience only part of a three-dimensional (3D) object. Theoretically, a wormhole might connect extremely long distances such as a billion light years, or short distances such as a few meters, or different points in time, or even multiverse, different universes. In 1995, Matt Visser suggested there may be ma ...
