''The Mafia Kills Only in Summer'' ( it, La mafia uccide solo d'estate) is a 2013 Italian comedy-drama film. It marked the directorial debut of the TV satirist Pif. The Italian Senate President and former anti-mafia magistrate Pietro Grasso referred to this film as the best film work on Sicilian Mafia ever made. The film premiered at the 2013 Torino Film Festival and released to theatres in Italy on 28 November 2013. It was awarded best comedy film at the 27th European Film Awards. Plot The story takes place in Palermo and it follows the story of the young Arturo Giammarresi, who wishes to become a journalist and has loved Flora since he was ten years old. His awkward attempts to conquer her heart run parallel to his (and his city's) slow realisation of the existence of Cosa Nostra. Pierfrancesco Diliberto, nicknamed Pif (born 1972), is an Italian television host, film director, actor and writer. Biography and career Pif was born in Palermo, Italy on 4 June 1972. He is the son of the Italian director Maurizio Diliberto and has had a passion for cinema since his youth. In 1998 he worked as assistant director to Marco Tullio Giordana for ''I cento passi'' (The Hundred Steps), a famous film against the mafia. In the same year he started working as a television author at Mediaset. ''The Mafia Only Kills in Summer'' () is an Italian 2016 television series written by Pif, directed by Luca Ribuoli, produced and broadcast by RAI. Based on the homonym 2013 film, also directed by Pif, it was first aired on Rai 1 from 21 November to 20 December 2016. In the United Kingdom the series was broadcast by Channel 4.
