The Lunch Box
''The Lunch Box'' is a chamber opera by Thai composer Thanapoom Sirichang and Thai librettist Bringkop Vora-Urai. Composed entirely in Tasmania under the guidance of IHOS Artistic Director Constantine Koukias, ''The Lunch Box'' may be the first opera sung in Thai to blend traditional Thai music and contemporary Western opera. A Buddhist tale ''The Lunch Box'' tells the story of a mother's devotion to her only son, a fundamentally good farmer whose rage at the untimely death of his father has tragic consequences. This much-loved Thai Buddhist folk tale is believed by the librettist to be based on an actual incident that occurred in Thailand 300 years ago. Opera is a form of theatre in which music is a fundamental component and dramatic roles are taken by singers. Michael Lampard
Michael Robert Garth Lampard (born March 1986) is an Australian opera singer, conductor and composer born in Hobart, Tasmania. Education and early acclaim Lampard undertook vocal study from a young age and acquired early notoriety as a boy soprano, performing in national broadcasts and with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. As his voice matured it settled into the baritone register and became quite an unusually robust and powerful voice for his early age. He continued his study at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music with his lifelong teacher Suzanne Ortuso, where he completed a bachelor of music with first class honors. His rich vocal tone led him to early recognition in international competitions where in 2007 he was flown to Paris to perform in a competition for Plácido Domingo and in 2009 where as the result of being a major prize winner in the Australian Singing Competition, he was flown to the Czech Republic to record arias with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. Opera Siam, formerly Bangkok Opera, is an opera company in Bangkok, Thailand. It presents an international opera repertoire, together with home-grown favorites.Fodor's Bangkok 25 Best', p. 90 (2015). 10 Days on the Island is a biennial cultural festival held in Tasmania, Australia. The first was held in 2001. It is Tasmania's premier cultural event, and presents exhibitions, performances and community events in 50 locations around the island.
