The Lost Face
''The Lost Face'' (German: ''Das verlorene Gesicht'') is a 1948 German drama film directed by Kurt Hoffmann and starring Marianne Hoppe, Gustav Fröhlich and Richard Häussler. The plot of a woman with two divided personalities caused by a recent trauma drew inspiration from the Gainsborough Melodrama ''Madonna of the Seven Moons'' which had been extremely popular on its release in Germany.Bergfelder p.31 It was made at the Bavaria Studios in Munich with Location shooting taking place in Heidelberg. The film's sets were designed by the art director Hans Kuhnert. Synopsis In Stuttgart a lost and disorientated young woman is found. It is assumed she is from Tibet. She receives care from a doctor and falls in love with a lawyer. Yet suddenly her face and voice change and she emerges as a completely different woman. Kurt Hoffmann
Kurt Hoffmann (12 November 1910 – 25 June 2001) was a German film director, the son of Carl Hoffmann. He directed 48 films between 1938 and 1971. He ran a production company Independent Film along with Heinz Angermeyer. His 1958 film ''Wir Wunderkinder'' was entered into the 1st Moscow International Film Festival and his 1960 film '' The Haunted Castle'' was entered into the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Silver Prize. Erich Ponto
Erich Johannes Bruno Ponto (14 December 1884 – 14 February 1957) was a German film and stage actor. Career Erich Ponto was born in Lübeck as the son of a merchant. After his family had moved to Hamburg-Eimsbüttel, he attended the gymnasium secondary school in Altona and upon his Abitur exam began a study of pharmacy at the University of Munich, where he went to lectures delivered by Nobel prize laureate Wilhelm Röntgen. He worked for a few years as a pharmacist, but was already passionate about acting during his university time – he started to take acting lessons and eventually became a full-time actor. Ponto gave his debut on stage at the Stadttheater Passau in 1908, followed by engagements in Nordhausen, Reichenberg (Liberec), and Düsseldorf.
