The Long Blondes
The Long Blondes are an English indie rock band formed in Sheffield in 2003 by Dorian Cox (lead guitar and keyboards), Reenie Hollis (real name Kathryn Hollis) (bass guitar and backing vocals), Emma Chaplin (rhythm guitar, keyboards and backing vocals), Kate Jackson (singer), Kate Jackson (lead vocals) and Screech Louder (real name Mark Turvey, drums). After several critically acclaimed singles, they released their debut album, ''Someone to Drive You Home'', on Rough Trade Records in November 2006. Their second album, ''Couples (The Long Blondes album), Couples'', was produced by Erol Alkan and released in April 2008. On 20 October 2008, due to the unexpected illness of their primary songwriter and lead guitarist, Dorian Cox, the band announced their amicable split via a message on their website, the same day their singles compilation, ''Singles (The Long Blondes album), "Singles"'' was released. Thee Sheffield Phonographic Corporation, or Thee SPC, is an independent record label based in Sheffield, UK. It is one of the most influential labels in the Yorkshire area, having given early breaks and support to many bands in the so-called New Yorkshire scene. The label was formed by Markie Mofo, Rob Chuck, Darren Chuck anMissy Tassles all one-time members of bands including Velodrome 2000, The Motherfuckers and Chuck, Mark went on to be in The Parallellograms and The Mini Skips whilst Missy has continued in bands Flying Wing, Black Light Ray, The Sleazoids performed briefly with The Wedding Present and solo as The Girl Next Door. "New Idols" is the first single to be released by Sheffield band The Long Blondes. It was released on Thee Sheffield Phonographic Corporation in June 2004 and was limited to 500 copies. The 7" vinyl is now highly collectible. Blondie is an American Rock music, rock band co-founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. Rough Trade Shops
Rough Trade is a group of independent record shops in the United Kingdom and the United States with headquarters in London. The first Rough Trade shop was opened in 1976 by Geoff Travis in the Ladbroke Grove district of West London. Travis reportedly took the name from the Canadian art punk/ new wave band Rough Trade. In 1978, the shop spawned Rough Trade Records, which became the label of bands from The Smiths to The Libertines. In 1982, the two separated and the shop remains an independent entity from the label, although links between the two are strong. At the same time, the shop moved from its original location on Kensington Park Road round the corner to Talbot Road. In 1988, a shop opened in Neal's Yard, Covent Garden.
