The Littles (TV Series)
''The Littles'' (French: ''Les Minipouss'') is an animated television series originally produced between 1983 and 1985. It is based on the characters from ''The Littles'', a series of children's novels by American author John Peterson, the first of which was published in 1967. The series was produced for the American broadcast network ABC by the French/American studio DIC Audiovisuel. It was post-produced by a Canadian animation studio, Animation City Editorial Services. Television history Along with '' Inspector Gadget'' and '' Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats'', ''The Littles'' was one of the first cartoons produced by DIC Entertainment for American television, and was the only one of the three to air on a network, rather than in syndication. John Peterson (author)
John Lawrence Peterson (February 10, 1924 – November 30, 2002) was an American author of children's books. He is best known as the creator of ''The Littles'', which began as a series of books in 1967, later adapted into an animated cartoon series by DiC Entertainment. Peterson was also the author of '' The Secret Hide-Out'', a popular Scholastic Books title in the 1960s and 1970s. Biography Peterson was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on February 10, 1924, and attended Pratt Institute before volunteering and serving as a paratrooper of the 11th Airborne Division in World War II. After the war, he returned to Pratt Institute and graduated in 1948. He lived in the Clinton Hill district of Brooklyn, New York with his wife Holly (Simmonds), also a Pratt graduate, where he had sons Chris (John Christopher), Matthew James, and Joel David Barnes, and a daughter Elizabeth Holly. The Cookie Jar Kids Network (formerly DiC Kids Network) was a syndicated children's programming block that airs selected Cookie Jar Group shows on local Fox, The CW, MyNetworkTV, and independent stations to provide them with a source of E/I programming required by federal law. The block is known on air as simply Cookie Jar. It was first formed in 2003 as the DIC Kids Network, and was syndicated by Tribune Entertainment from 2003 to 2008, and then by Ascent Media from 2008 to 2011. ''ABC Weekend Special'' is a weekly 30-minute American television anthology series for children that aired Saturday mornings on ABC from 1977 to 1997, which featured a wide variety of stories that were both live-action and animated. ''Here Come the Littles'' is a 1985 animated fantasy film produced in France by DIC Enterprises, Inc. and distributed by Atlantic Releasing.
