The Kauai Bus
The Kauai Bus is the public transportation service of Kauaʻi County, Hawaiʻi. They operate nine regular local bus routes. History The forerunner of the Kauai Bus was a fleet of ten buses managed by the County of Kauai's Office of Elderly Affairs to serve the senior population. In 1990, the first four fixed routes were started between Kapaa and Līhue, and was expanded island-wide in 1992 with Hurricane Iniki recovery funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Kauai Bus has a central administration, operations, and maintenance facility at 3220 Hoolako Street in Līhue. Routes The Kauai Bus operates six fixed routes; five of those run seven days a week. Three of the routes make up the Mainline service, which runs along the perimeter of the island from Kekaha to Hanalei. Koloa, Hawaii
Kōloa is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Kauai County, Hawaii, United States. The population was 2,231 at the 2020 census, up from 1,942 at the 2000 census. The first successful sugarcane plantation in the Hawaiian Islands was started here in 1835. It became a part of Grove Farm in 1948. The name ''Kōloa'' is often incorrectly translated as "native duck", which is the correct translation for the similar-looking ''koloa'' (without the macron). ''Kōloa'' means "a long cane with a crook." According to one account, the district of Kōloa was named for a steep rock called Pali-o-kō-loa which was found in Waikomo Stream. Maui Bus
Maui Bus is the public transportation service of the island of Maui, Hawaii, and is operated by Roberts Hawaii under a public-private partnership with Maui County government. They operate 13 regular local bus routes and 4 commuter routes, which have a single early morning run and a return trip in the afternoon and require a reservation. History The first public transit service on Maui started in 1992 with two loop routes in Central Maui operated by the non-profit organization Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO).
