The It Girl (album)
''The It Girl'' is the second studio album by English Britpop band Sleeper, released in May 1996 (see 1996 in music). It was their most successful album, selling over 300,000 copies in the UK alone. The album was released internationally; the US version has a different track listing along with alternative photos in the liner booklet. It was recorded in London over the winter of 1995 and 1996. Critical reception Jack Rabid of AllMusic wrote that while "nothing is quite the total knockout of ''Smart''s ' Inbetweener,' ''The It Girl'' is more consistently accomplished, with a broader palette of influences". ''Record Collector'' is a British monthly music magazine. It was founded in 1980 and distributes worldwide. History The early years The first standalone issue of ''Record Collector'' was published in March 1980, though its history stretches back further. In 1963, publisher Sean O'Mahony (alias Johnny Dean) had launched an official Beatles magazine, ''The Beatles Book''. Although it shut down in 1969, ''The Beatles Book'' reappeared in 1976 due to popular demand. Aimee Elizabeth Mann (born September 8, 1960) is an American singer-songwriter. Over the course of four decades, she has released more than a dozen albums as a solo artist and with other musicians. She is noted for her sardonic and literate lyrics about dark subjects. Her work with the producer Jon Brion in the 1990s was influential on American alternative music. Mann was born in Richmond, Virginia, and studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. In the 1980s, after playing with the Young Snakes and Ministry, she co-founded the new wave band 'Til Tuesday and wrote their top-ten single " Voices Carry" (1985). Jimmy Destri
Jimmy Destri (born James Mollica, April 13, 1954, Brooklyn, New York City, United States) is an American musician. Background Destri is of Italian descent. His father was a novelist who also wrote screenplays and eventually advertising copy to support his family while his mother was a housewife. He has a sister, Donna Destri, who is also a singer and did backing vocals for Blondie and Jimmy's own solo record. Destri grew up in Boro Park and was raised in his grandmother's house. His uncle played drums for Joey Dee and the Starlighters. He attended Catholic schools and went to Bishop Ford High School. Destri dropped out of high school in order to form his first band. He played keyboards in the rock band Blondie, and was one of the principal songwriters for the band along with Chris Stein and Deborah Harry. He rejoined Blondie in 1997. "Atomic" is a 1980 song by American rock band Blondie from their fourth studio album, ''Eat to the Beat'' (1979). Written by Debbie Harry and Jimmy Destri and produced by Mike Chapman, the song was released as the album's third single. Louise Wener
Louise Jane Wener (born 30 July 1966, Gants Hill, London, England) is an English writer, singer, songwriter and guitarist of the band Sleeper. She is the younger daughter of Donald Wener, an Inland Revenue tax inspector from East Ham who had served in the RAF, and Audrey ('' née'' Dixon), a bank clerk and former nurse. She attended Manchester University where she met Jon Stewart, eventually leading to the formation of Sleeper. Her elder sister was the writer Sue Margolis. Their brother, Geoff, managed Sleeper after attending Cambridge University. Sleeper recorded three full-length albums prior to splitting: ''Smart'', '' The It Girl'', and '' Pleased to Meet You''. "Inbetweener" is a song by English Britpop band Sleeper, written by the band's vocalist and guitarist Louise Wener. It was the third single to be released from their debut album ''Smart'' in 1995. It was their breakthrough single, crashing daytime radio playlists and reaching number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. Louise Wener stated that "Inbetweener" was a reference to her upbringing in an English commuter town; "it's about where people live and what they do in suburbia, and it's about unfulfiled dreams". Release Indolent released "Inbetweener" across four single formats on 9 January 1995. A week later, "Inbetweener" debuted at number 16 on the UK singles chart and spent a further three weeks on the charts.
