The High Dials
The High Dials are a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band started out playing a brand of pop music strongly influenced by 1960s British mod styles, but their sound has broadened to incorporate power pop, psychedelic music, shoegaze and folk rock. History The High Dials evolved out of an earlier three-piece band known as The Datsons. The Datsons released music on Union Label Group affiliate Tyrant Records in 2000 and Off the Hip Records in 2002 as "The Datson Four". Confusion with New Zealand band The Datsuns and a new sound and line-up resulted in a name change following SXSW 2003. The High Dials' debut album, ''A New Devotion'', was released July 29, 2003 through Rainbow Quartz Records. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. In later years, the definition of ''indie pop'' has bifurcated to also mean bands from unrelated DIY scenes/movements with pop leanings. Subgenres include chamber pop and twee pop. E Street Band
The E Street Band is an American rock band, and has been musician Bruce Springsteen's primary backing band since 1972. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. For the bulk of Springsteen's recording and performing career, the band consisted of: guitarists Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, and Patti Scialfa, keyboardists Danny Federici and Roy Bittan, bassist Garry Tallent, drummer Max Weinberg, and saxophonist Clarence Clemons. ''Anthems for Doomed Youth'' is the fourth studio album from Canadian indie pop act The High Dials, released on November 2, 2010, on the Rainbow Quartz label. The album's title makes reference to a poem by World War I poet Wilfred Owen. The album was self-recorded by the band in an abandoned naval building before being mixed by Michael Musmanno (Lilys) in New York City. The music has been likened to R.E.M., Echo and the Bunnymen and The Smiths. The Zombies
The Zombies are an English rock band formed in the early 1960s in St Albans and led by keyboardist and vocalist Rod Argent and vocalist Colin Blunstone. The group had a British and American hit in 1964 with "She's Not There". In the US, two further singles—"Tell Her No" in 1965 and "Time of the Season" in 1968—were also successful. Their 1968 album ''Odessey and Oracle'' was ranked number 100 on ''Rolling Stone''s 2012 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and number 243 on Rolling Stone's 2020 list. Rod Argent
Rodney Terence Argent (born 14 June 1945) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, composer, and record producer. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Argent came to prominence in the mid 1960s as the keyboardist, founder and leader of the English rock band the Zombies, and went on to form the band Argent after the first break-up of the Zombies. Argent is one of the main composers of the Zombies' music and made major lyrical contributions to the band's songs. As the band's keyboardist he used a variety of instruments, including Hohner Pianet, Mellotron, harpsichord, and organ. Neko Richelle Case (; born September 8, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter and member of the Canadian indie rock group the New Pornographers. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an American musical project and band led and started by Anton Newcombe. It was formed in San Francisco in 1990. The group was the subject of the 2004 documentary film called '' Dig!'', and have gained media notoriety for their tumultuous working relationships as well as the erratic behavior of Newcombe. The collective has released 18 albums, five compilation albums, five live albums, 13 EPs, 18 singles as well as two various-artist compilation albums to date. Sam Roberts (born October 2, 1974) is a Canadian rock singer-songwriter who has released seven albums. His debut EP ''The Inhuman Condition'', reached the Canadian charts in 2002. He and his bandmates have released three albums as Sam Roberts and four albums as Sam Roberts Band. He is also a member of Canadian supergroup Anyway Gang, who released their debut self-titled album in 2019. Joseph Donovan (producer)
Joseph Donovan is a music producer, engineer, and musician. His credits include the Juno Award winning album Love at the End of the World by Sam Roberts and albums by The High Dials, and The Dears. He is currently guitarist with the Montreal band Receivers, an offshoot of his now defunct band Marlowe (1996–2005). Early career In 1996 songwriters Joseph Donovan and Alex Olsen's careers came to fruition upon forming the band Marlowe. Marlowe consisted of Donovan on Guitar, Olsen on vocals and keyboard, Jason Thomas, George Donoso and Eric Fares. The band received positive reviews and support but ultimately struggled through member changes and lack of album support. This forced Donovan and Olsen to chart their own course and caused the development of Donovan's music production career with Stock Market Audio, co-owned by Adrian Popovich. Will Carruthers
Will Carruthers (born 9 November 1967, in Chesterfield, England) is a musician, best known for playing bass in the influential alternative rock bands Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized. Biography Early life Carruthers moved to Rugby in 1977, and joined St Mark's Junior school. After leaving Lawrence Sheriff School at the age of 16, he went to work in a sheet metal factory in Birmingham, and it was then he began to teach himself to play bass. New York Dolls
New York Dolls were an American rock band formed in New York City in 1971. Along with the Velvet Underground and the Stooges, they were one of the first bands of the early punk rock scenes. Although the band never achieved much commercial success and their original line-up fell apart quickly, the band's first two albums—'' New York Dolls'' (1973) and '' Too Much Too Soon'' (1974)—became among the most popular cult records in rock.
