''The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki'' ( fi, Hymyilevä mies, translation=Smiling man) is a 2016 Finnish biographical drama film co-written and directed by Juho Kuosmanen. It won the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. It was selected as the Finnish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards but was not nominated. Plot It's the year 1962: Olli Mäki ( Jarkko Lahti) is a Finnish amateur-turned-professional boxer from the town of Kokkola who, while attending a wedding, becomes smitten with his friend Raija (Oona Airola). Juho Kuosmanen
Juho Kuosmanen (born September 30, 1979) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. He graduated from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in 2014. Kuosmanen's graduation film called The Painting Sellers was nominated for five Finnish film Academy Awards. (set design, screenplay, best actress, best director, best film). The Painting Sellers won the first prize in Cinéfondation in Cannes Film Festival in 2010. Kuosmanen worked as an actor in Leea Klemola's arctic trilogy in Tampere Theatre in Kokkola and New Karleby. Kuosmanen has also directed opera with conductors Sakari Oramo and Santtu-Matias Rouvali. This is a list of submissions to the 89th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2015 and 30 September 2016. The deadline for submissions was 3 October 2016, with the Academy announcing a list of eligible films on 11 October. Tri-X is a black and white photographic film produced by the Eastman Kodak Company. Since 2013 it is distributed by Kodak Alaris which controls the ''Kodak Professional'' product line under which it is grouped. The combination of hand held cameras and high speed Tri-X film was transformative for photojournalism and for cinema.
