The Gambling Man
''The Gambling Man'' is a British three-part television serial, or long TV movie, first broadcast in 1995, starring Robson Green, directed by Norman Stone, based on a novel by Catherine Cookson. Outline Rory Connor (Robson Green) is a rent-collector on Tyneside with a passion for playing poker for high stakes, while Janie Waggett (Stephanie Putson) is the woman who loves him, standing by him through many troubles. Charlotte Kean (Sylvestra Le Touzel) is Connor's employer, and she too finds him attractive. He gets into bad company in the dark world of gambling is so sure that poker is his way to riches that he makes a terrible decision. He spends time trying,but still doesn't manage to meet Rafa. The plot may be partly autobiographical, as Catherine Cookson’s own father was a bigamist and a gambler. Dame Catherine Ann Cookson, DBE (''née'' McMullen; 20 June 1906 – 11 June 1998) was a British writer. She is in the top 20 of the most widely read British novelists, with sales topping 100 million, while retaining a relatively low profile in the world of celebrity writers. Her books were inspired by her deprived youth in South Shields (historically part of County Durham), North East England, the setting for her novels. With 104 titles written in her own name or two other pen names, she is one of the most prolific British novelists. David Haddow
David Haddow (12 June 1869 – 14 April 1955) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He won one cap for Scotland, in 1894. Career In 1890, Haddow was involved in an altercation between players from Airdrieonians and his team, local rivals Albion Rovers. The charge was not proven. He won a Scottish Cup (1894) and two Glasgow Cups in a four-year spell with Rangers, Haddow joined Tottenham Hotspur in November 1899, as a replacement for the injured George Clawley. Paul Colman
Paul Colman is a British-Australian pop-rock guitarist, vocalist, pianist, and composer. He has made a name for himself as a Christian musician independently, with his band the Paul Colman Trio, as a solo artist, and as part of the Newsboys. Richard Franklin (actor)
Richard Kimber Franklin (born 15 January 1936) is an English actor, writer, director and political activist. Principally a stage actor, he has also appeared as a regular character in several high-profile British television programmes, including ''Crossroads'' and ''Emmerdale Farm'', and he portrayed Captain Mike Yates of UNIT in ''Doctor Who'' from 1971 until 1974, returning to the role on a number of occasions both on television and in ''Doctor Who'' spin-off media. Alan Mason
Alan Mason (1934-2014) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played for Balmain and Canterbury-Bankstown in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Mason later coached the club in the 1970s. Playing career Mason made his first grade debut for Canterbury against Manly-Warringah in 1954. Mason left Canterbury at the end of the 1955 season. In total, he played 29 games for the club across all grades. In 1956, Mason joined Balmain and in his first season at the club was unlucky not gain selection in the team which made the 1956 NSWRL grand final which Balmain lost against St George. Mason played with Balmain up until the end of 1962 before signing with Monaro in the Canberra competition. He captain-coached a Monaro representative team against a touring South African side in 1963.
