The Gambia competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. It was The Gambia's twelfth appearance at the Games. Modou Gamo and Wurrie Njadoe were the country's opening ceremony flagbearers. On 2 August, judoka Faye Njie won the country's first Commonwealth Games silver medal and second Commonwealth medal ever (the first being a bronze medal at the 1970 Commonwealth Games). Boxing is one of the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham, England at the National Exhibition Centre Hall 4. It is one of the founding sports, having featured in every edition of the Games since the inaugural 1930 edition; the boxing competition will take place within England for the third time. Gina Bass
Gina Bass (born 3 May 1995) is a Gambian athlete competing in sprinting events. She won the bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 2016 African Championships. Bass qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics and was the Gambian flag bearer. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she placed 52nd in the 200 metres heats and did not qualify for the semifinals. She is the first-ever Gambian qualifier for the final at the World Athletics Championships. She currently holds national records in the 100 and 200 metres.
