''The Further Adventures of Lucky Jim'' ( ''The New Adventures of Lucky Jim'') is a British television sitcom which first aired on BBC 2 in 1982. It is inspired by the 1954 novel ''Lucky Jim'' by Kingsley Amis, updated to the Swinging Sixties. It was intended as a sequel to the 1967 series of the same name also written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, which had starred Keith Barron in the title role. Lucky Jim
''Lucky Jim'' is a novel by Kingsley Amis, first published in 1954 by Victor Gollancz. It was Amis's first novel and won the 1955 Somerset Maugham Award for fiction. The novel follows the exploits of the eponymous James (Jim) Dixon, a reluctant lecturer at an unnamed provincial English university. Amis arrived at Dixon's surname from 12 Dixon Drive, Leicester, the address of Philip Larkin from 1948 to 1950, while he was a librarian at the university there. ''Lucky Jim'' is dedicated to Larkin, who helped to inspire the main character and contributed significantly to the structure of the novel. ''Time'' magazine included ''Lucky Jim'' in its ''TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005''. Tony Haygarth
George Anthony Haygarth (4 February 1945 – 10 March 2017) was an English television, film and theatre actor. Life and career After leaving Marlborough College, Liverpool, Haygarth worked unsuccessfully in 1963 as a lifeguard in Torquay, and also tried escapology, equally unsuccessfully. Other jobs included psychiatric nursing and he was an amateur actor before turning professional and appearing in repertory theatre, followed by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. Haygarth played a milkman in ''Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads'' and made his film debut in the comedy film ''Percy'' (1971), from then on playing many roles in police and historical dramas, as well as situation comedies. Margery Mason (27 September 1913 – 26 January 2014) was an English actress and director. She was the artistic director of the Repertory Theatre in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland in the 1960s. Peter Clowe Hughes (20 May 1922 – 5 February 2019) was an English actor with a career spanning five decades. He was an actor, founder and director of theatre, but was best known for his film and television roles. Early life and theatre Hughes was born in Kensal Rise, London, an only child of a single mother. He was partly raised in foster institutions, and initially trained as a draughtsman designing car chassis, before moving to Coventry after his mother died in 1939 where he took a post designing armoured cars. After helping establish the Talisman Theatre in 1942, he trained as an actor, making his professional debut in 1949, in a production of Noël Coward's ''Fallen Angels''. David Simeon
David Simeon (born David John Townsend, 17 May 1943, Chippenham, Wiltshire) is a British actor. Career David Simeon began his acting career after being accepted into RADA, the Rose Bruford College and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Ultimately he chose the latter and completed his training in 1964. After years working in Wiltshire rep and Birmingham rep, Simeon began working extensively in theatre and television from the late 1960s.
